"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Re: On this day in 1996....
So was I best away match for atmosphere I have been to
Re: On this day in 1996....
So was I.
Apart from Wembley, the most mental I've ever gone at a match was when super-sub Painter scored in front of what must have been 2500-3000 Darlo fans. Brilliant night.
In fact, a bloody good line up there - the '96 Wembley team hadnt quite broken up by then, but notice that Bannister, Gaughan & Appleby had obviously gone and been replaced by much lesser quality IMO (Carss, Oliver, Twynham for example)

I remember it. I also remember not getting the credit we deserved the next day, as some other teams had pulled off some good results too.
If I remember (I was only 11), Ian Rush was playing for Leeds

We all went ******* ballistic when it went 2-2 !
Wasn't it George Graham's first home game in charge at Leeds ?
Also remember us baiting the Leeds fans as they'd got humiliated by Man Utd and Cantona just before our game.

Rush was looking to equal the league cup scoring record but looked well past his best. Fantastic night. Was away on holiday for the second leg
Re: On this day in 1996....
