Liam Marrs
Liam Marrs
What has happened to him after the friendly game? Any chance of signing him or is he having trials at other clubs before he commits to anything.
Re: Liam Marrs
was just thinking the same.
I think Gray said in the echo he was trying to offer him something. I bet he's probs holding out for better

I believe he has gone elsewhere for more money. The drawback of sticking to a budget .. !

or surely the benefits of sticking to a budget - we of all teams should appreciate this!

That would be a crying shame and i know 1 performance is not really enough to form a full opinion but he looked just the jobAnthonyP wrote:I believe he has gone elsewhere for more money. The drawback of sticking to a budget .. !

Off to Spenny?
Alun's promise to the fans: “I’ll make sure I’ll bring players in that are value for money and I want players that want to play for Darlington Football Club, want to progress and move up the league and show the fans that passion.”

No surprise there really is there.

Probably not helped by having his name plastered on the Internet when MG tried to keep it under wraps

Don't be ridiculous. Once he plays, it'll get out very quickly who he is. People talk to each other at this level.divas wrote:Probably not helped by having his name plastered on the Internet when MG tried to keep it under wraps
Would you rather he played with a bag on his head, so no one could identify him?

Re: Liam Marrs
According to Spennymoor's Twitter: Minutes silence for the 2 Newcastle fans who died in MH17 and Robin Williams.
MH17 victims I get but Robin Williams?
Unless that's some sort of joke. It's sad he's died, but a minute's silence at a football friendly match in the North East? Really?

Re: Liam Marrs
Gray obviously wanted to keep him off the team sheet for a reason. Of course it's not to say he wouldn't have ended up elsewhere anyway but why make things even easier for rivals -'at this level you shouldn't underestimate who browses forums for team info, it's not like players have agents to peddle them at this level.

If you're seriously suggesting we're going to lose out on him because someone posted his name on here, you need to give your head a shake.divas wrote:Gray obviously wanted to keep him off the team sheet for a reason. Regardless of how Spenny came across him, if he wanted to join Darlo, he would have signed.
It would have been well known if non-league circles Marrs was with us (he stepped on the pitch, someone will have recognised him, or he'll have told friends he was on trial for us.)
Spenny will have probably known he was playing for us before that match - trust me, it spreads quickly at this level.
The fact his name appeared here will have had nothing to do with it.

Gavin Fell was at the game against Bishop anyway so I don't think it really matters what was plastered online afterwards.

I wish we had spennymoor towns sponsors.

This is quite a funny scenario if you take it literally

Waiting for Raj to shaft them!

I agree with divas. Gray wanted to keep it quite for a reason but I can understand how these things get out

It does make you wonder how Spenny will keep all 200 members of their squad happy.

It's simple, they will pay them plenty to sit on their arses!
Re: Liam Marrs
Apparently if Marrs signs for them they will have a first team squad of 27, 3 of whom Gray wanted to sign, 4 if you include Tait. Seems to me they are signing players just to stop them signing for us.LoidLucan wrote:It does make you wonder how Spenny will keep all 200 members of their squad happy.
At this level though, I don't think players would be too happy if they don't get regular football. We saw ourselves last season how quickly Gott got fed up of not being in the first team.
Re: Liam Marrs
I think it depends on the terms. If like to think we are sensible and pay a relatively low 'retainer' say £10-£20 per week and then pay an appearance fee on top. The fact we have been able to shift players that aren't playing much supports this. If you are playing for us you will make more money than elsewhere, if you are not playing you will get more elsewhere.
If a player gets a set £150 pw say then they are potentially more happy to just sit on it. I was actually being sarcastic when I said the black and white stripes thing earlier this morning - shows how predictable things are!
Spennymoor will have 3 right backs if they get Marrs. Griffiths and Groves being the other two.
Just wish we were as appealing to sponsors as they are.

Re: Liam Marrs
Sounds like Marrs had a good game for Spenny against Newcastle. Can't imagine they will let us sign him if that is true.
And I firmly believe even if his name hadn't been mentioned on here it would have been the same outcome. Dear me if we can find out who a player is then I think those in the game will be able to!

Re: Liam Marrs
Definitely. It's not like he was some unknown school kid. Just like Lynch who was received from Sunderland at the same time.
For you to insult me, I must first value your opinion.
Re: Liam Marrs
Spennymoor already have 2 good right backs in Dan Groves and Kallum Griffiths. If they sign Marrs it will be a piss take.
I try not to take any notice but one of their fans who claims we have a bigger budget than them is starting to get on my nerves.
