Joe Tait
Confirmed as joining "sustainable" Spenny.
Re: Joe Tait
Good player but we can spend the money we paid him elsewhere in a position where we dont have an abundance of players. Lets not forget we have a player who was voted one of the best centre halves in the league still at the club and who doesnt disappear when dropped.
Re: Joe Tait
You are right loan_star. It is the irrational part of my brain that wants to keep Tait. I think him and Hunter could be a solution at CB for a while as they are both young and developing.
Rationally though we have Hunter, White, Brown and Robinson (if needed) that is ample cover at CB and if/when we get promoted we can look at what is available at that time for the step up.

Re: Joe Tait
Agree with loan_star. Tait formed an excellent partnership with Gary Brown in the Northern League, but could anyone really see him being a starter at either Centre Back or Centre Midfield next season?
I got the impression he wasn't keen on staying, and it's no surprise to hear he's left. Wish him all the best, I think we're a couple of players short still but central defence isn't the priority IMO.

Don't mind Tait leaving but rather it wasn't to bloody Spennymoor.

Re: Joe Tait
There is that too. They really are clocking up some good players now. That said they can still only play 11 men. He has to fight it out with Mason, Johnson & Capper for a first team spot.Robbie Painter wrote:Don't mind Tait leaving but rather it wasn't to bloody Spennymoor.
Off the topic a little bit but it is the 1st July new season officially starts today. Who is going to do the 2013/14 squad update thread? I have lost track a little bit.
Bell, Jameson
Walker, Hunter, Brown, White, Scott
Thompson, Portas, Robinson, Galbraith, Hopson
Purewal, Dowson, Fisher, Hatch, Armstrong
Is that it? We are certainly a bit top heavy.

Re: Joe Tait
We have 3 better centre backs IMO in Gary Brown, Chris Hunter and Alan White. His signing was never going to happen and he looked totally out of place in midfield, but having said that he is a good signing for Spenny. His comment on the Spenny website that "this is where I want to play my football" seems a bit tongue in cheek, playing in front of 300 against 1100 is a no brainer but possibly he is a bit cheesed off that MG did not come in for him. They must have some pretty good sponsorship deals to be able to carry a very big squad on gates of 250-300, and signing players of the calibre of Tait who was full time last season, certainly won,t come cheap.
More importantly back to us, very happy with our 3 signings so far ,will without doubt strengthen an already good side, ideally would like a strong physical right back and an attacking midfielder similar to Mitchell to complete our squad. I am confident of going a step further this season and finishing top if MG can add these 2, main threats to be Lancaster, Farsley, Northwich and Salford. Not sure about Spendy but cannot see them in the top 6.

Re: Joe Tait
Funny one cos MG clearly favoured Tait over White at the back end of the season.
This tells me this is all about saving £ and Spendy have offered him the best deal.

"Saving £"?
Maybe we simply can't match what Spenny can offer.

In the same way most NLZ sages said we wouldn't be in the top 10 in the Northern League?QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Not sure about Spendy but cannot see them in the top 6.
If Spenny don't get to the play-offs minimum, that's a disappointing season for them.

Also we couldn't employ him in an artificial job, which seems to have swayed his decision perhaps?Ingleby wrote:That sounds about right too.Quakerz wrote:"Saving £"?

Good luck to the lad though, but we move on.
Re: Joe Tait
I am not sure it was that clear. Tait came in and did a good job but also he was dropped for a period of time in favour of White earlier in the season.Ingleby wrote:Funny one cos MG clearly favoured Tait over White at the back end of the season.

Gray doesn't like to change/disrupt a winning team that is all.

Re: Joe Tait
Relaxed about this as it helps solve the CB dilemma and if it means Brown is back as CB and not CM i'm happier

I can see Brown playing right back

Tait came in because White got suspended and he kept his place.lo36789 wrote:I am not sure it was that clear. White really needs to keep a lid on things this season and not pick up so many bookings!

Re: Joe Tait
We have plenty of CB's and are comfortable in this area, however Joe is an excllent player and no denying this.
Spenny have gathered the best squad again and we will just have to meet them head on and hope we have the best team again.
I can see a couple of signing for us soon.

I always thought we looked more solid against set pieces with White. Can't see the excellent Mason getting dropped so interesting to see where he slots in.

Re: Joe Tait
Speculating at the moment but plenty have gone and we are short in certain areas at the moment so it will be happening.Quaker-Ste wrote:Have you heard anything about signings coming soon super Les or is that u just speculating?
Be very surprised if a CM doesn't come in as we are certainly interested in that area. At least another one to leave from the squad mentioned above before season starts I would say.
Re: Joe Tait
Jack Walker trained with the rest of the lads tonight.
Re: Joe Tait
Fair enough but it wouldn't be the first time. Brown started there in the play offs. Walker only came on due to injury.JPearson97 wrote:In favour of Walker? I don't think so.Ingleby wrote:I can see Brown playing right back

Re: Joe Tait
Wasn't that more down to Gray's stance that Brown must play in the playoffs (as captain) but didn't want to disrupt the Hunter/Tait partnership in the middle. As that was a settled, winning formula at the time.Ingleby wrote:Fair enough but it wouldn't be the first time. Brown started there in the play offs. Shoe-horning your best players into unnatural positions does not work. Take Brown and Hunter as first choice centre-backs with White as backup and build from that.

I'm sure MG will have learnt from this. A small tactical error on his behalf. Nothing major that can't be sorted for next season.lo36789 wrote:Wasn't that more down to Gray's stance that Brown must play in the playoffs (as captain) but didn't want to disrupt the Hunter/Tait partnership in the middle. Re: Joe Tait
Don't get me wrong, Brown is certainly not a RB and for me I'd play him as a centre half or not at all. However I do worry a little about Walker, he's certainly not at the level of a Harrison in my opinion.JPearson97 wrote:We had Tait back then though.Ingleby wrote:Fair enough but it wouldn't be the first time. Other issue would White be happy with sitting on the bench all season, I'm not sure.
