Very impressive from what I have seen so far. Pace, imagination and all effort.
Hope he can be available to use for the remaining games including play off,s
Good luck to the lad

Another good news story. Nothing is guaranteed but clearly we are still of interest to people.
Good to hear about Nathan Thomas as well MOM in his Plymouth debut.

Suspect he will not be with us next season, very promising player and will play higher. Hopefully he will back for the playoffs

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
The other good thing about this is, it shows to other players who might be thinking "is this the right move to make" that, if they do well, they will noticed and get there league career back on track. (Mind you a little fee would be nice )

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
So what to do about his place in the team, is Robinson back yet?
I would think Hopson will slot in his place

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
Slightly worrying as Hopson has offered nothing.
If we can keep hold of Mitchell it gives us two dynamic quick wingers to spread the play, and we look so much more dangerous.
Good luck to the lad obviously, not keen on relying on Hopson in the massive games coming up!

Seems a bit harsh. Other posters haven't been that down on Hopson?TDS wrote:Slightly worrying as Hopson has offered nothing.

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
Firstly I disagree completely with Hopson not offering us anything. He's had several very good games since his return to the club in an unfamiliar role on the wing. He's more suited to playing just off the top two. He was excellent, albeit against a poor Wakefield, side the other week and was unfortunate to lose his place in the squad completely at Ossett Town. Whilst I agree he can be quiet on occasion I still think he is a very good young player.TDS wrote:Slightly worrying as Hopson has offered nothing.

Secondly I agree Mitchell will be a loss as he's proved to be different class at this level since joining.
Craig Liddle is God!!
Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
i like hopson, problem is he needs to play the same role as Thommo, behind the front two. If he is just playing in the center he can be lightweight but still great on the ball when given time

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
TDS: Totally disagree with you on Hopson. He has quality about him, certainly added real value when playing creative midfield just back of the front 2.
Playing wide or as a ball winning midfielder is not his position, however even then he gets his head up and uses the ball intelligently.

Fair enough, it's about opinions!
Just wouldn't feel as confident with Hopson, he seems to "just" miss passes and shots and not quite make it. I was glad when he returned, but we need stand outs in every position.

Good luck to him. When I hear of this and the likes of Nathan Thomas makes me even more surprised that Thompson hasn't been picked up yet. Lad deserves it but i'm glad we have him.
For you to insult me, I must first value your opinion.

Thompson's age goes against him I would imagine

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
Also he's tied down to a contract whereas Thomas and Mitchell weren't.
Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
But to be honest I can't see a pro club having to break the bank to get him.
Just my opinion but he's worth twenty Nathan Thomas's

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
Not many clubs in League Two/Conference have the money spare for gambles. £10-15k is a gamble for a player who has been at that level before and fell away, I would imagine that would be the absolute minimum we would accept for him given the transfer fee we reportedly paid.Ingleby wrote:But to be honest I can't see a pro club having to break the bank to get him.

Surprised Gateshead not been in for him

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
I am not sure they are big on paying transfer fees. It depends what they need as well they have a number of quite highly regarded strikers for that level plus the likes of Marcus Maddison in attacking midfield.Ingleby wrote:Surprised Gateshead not been in for him
They are on a promotion charge in the conference, you need quite good players to do that given the money floating around at that level.
When his contract comes to a close with us it will be interesting. He will be 25 then mind is that too late?

At 25 he can move under a Bosman and the "selling" club get no fee. If he was under 25, then even under Bosman ruling they would be entitled to a fee
Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
To be honest I just meant that he won't be attached to us anymore. Hadn't even really thought about that under 25 ruling. Does that under 25 ruling apply to p/t contracts?spen666 wrote:At 25 he can move under a Bosman and the "selling" club get no fee. Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
I think the thing that could put a club off signing Thompson is that to make it worth his while, they would have to pay at least what we gets now in wages and match fees and offer him a contract long enough to make packing his day job in worth it too.
Personally I think its too much of a gamble to give a job up for a one year (or less) contract and too much of a gamble to offer a 2 year upwards contract to a player that has been floating around the lower non league scene for a few years.

Agree.
I thought I had put this in an earlier post but must have taken it out before posting.
I believe (from Twitter) that Thompson is looking at buying a house at the moment. That would be another root that needs to be uplifting.

Re: Adam Mitchell - On Trial for Brentford
It's the same scenario we found when trying to sign local non league players when were were a league/Conf. club. Having to pay over the odds a la Walshaw to get players to move up.loan_star wrote:I think the thing that could put a club off signing Thompson is that to make it worth his while, they would have to pay at least what we gets now in wages and match fees and offer him a contract long enough to make packing his day job in worth it too.

It does happen though or non league players would never progress - it depends on how much the player wants to get back into league football and how much they are willing to risk to make that happen.
It's often riskier for players with a decent career to jack a job in to take up a 1yr deal but with all due respect to Thommo he's hardly got his dream job and I get the impression from comments on twitter that he'd quite happily jack the job for a second bite at league football

At 24 you can afford to take a risk. If he gets a chance, good luck to him.
