...a thread to post all of those Darlo one game wonders who played once and then disappeared - im sure we've had quite a few - i'll allow those who played less than 5 games to make it a bit more interesting - the more obscure the better (i'm sure there'll be plenty of Hodgy's dodgy foreign imports)

i'll start

John McClelland - ex Leeds centre half brought to the club in his twilight years, played against Hartlepool and sustained a compound fracture that ended his career.

James Spears , goalkeeper on loan from Everton , played the last game of a season - threw his gloves into the tin shed at the end of the game ! Seemed a bit of a nutter

I can still hear the sound of McClellands leg snapping now, not nice and a horrible way to end a pretty good career

Danny Barbera - one of Hodgy's finest imports, made 2 or 3 appearances and scored an overhead kick down at Bury in whatever the Mickey Mouse Cup was called then.

Another who we saw one year when we played home pre-season games at Billy Town - he was a big greek type who looked like he got stuck doing his stretches. Don't think he ever played for us though.

My memory is sketchy but didn't we have Jimmy Case and Neil McNab in central midfield around the same time in 1993/94 season. Both must have been approaching 40.

Case played just once I'm sure of it . . not sure if McNab stayed for longer though

I remember this old guy in the Tin Shed next to me saying "Oh Case would have made that pass in his prime" . . yes he wouldn't have been playing for Darlo either.

Brian Healy, brought in by Tommy Taylor towards the end of his fairly short reign, and scored a winning headed goal at Feethams (can't remember who against). Sure he only played one game for us too.

Yes Jimmy Case did only play one game for us at the ripe old age of 39 in 1994 , went on to play 32 games for Brighton up until 1996.

Lawrie Madden? can't have played that many games for us either, but we had him during roughly the same era as McNab and Case.

Another Hodgy classic

Jose Quitongo . . Same season as Pedro Paulo. Played just once for Darlo then became a minor success north of the border for Hamilton ( I think)

some crackers coming out here - mullet, you nicked my powerplay - the one that prompted me to post this thread - Daniel Barbara - he also scored a 35 yarder past exeter - he was some boy, the bury goal was past dean kiely too!

http://www.ecfc.u-net.com/archives/seas ... ngtonH.htm

http://archive.burytimes.co.uk/1996/12/11/838877.html

while we're on dodgy foreigners - Willie Giumarra - left winger from what i remember, came from Montreal Impact - the same club we got Jason De Vos from

Fux. Beat me to it!

I think he fell foul of some kind of work permit ruling after playing one game meaning he could only play in friendlies and reserve games so he went back to Argentina.

How much did Paul Beavers and Gary Williamson play between them? Also Leghit Zehdane and Stephen 'two weeks away' Thomas?

Zeghdane played only 2 or 3 - i remember he played against Forest in the cup when we won at the City Ground.

Williamson played a few as he was first choice alongside Ton Kaak for the start of the 96/97 season, he never scored though.

Magnus Andersson - Swedish guy who i'm sure Hodgy claimed could do the 100m in about 10 secs - played on a Tuesday night at home i think, coming on as a sub - was useless

Lukas Papaconstantinou only played the one game for us. Ross Turnbull played once. Jamie Speare played about 4 games I think & was s*** in them all.

I remember him! He threw his boots too, some bird from my school got one!

My memory is s***, but I think the game was against Cardiff, we won 2-1, and ended their chances of making playoffs or automatic promotion? Its all a bit hazy!

Hes on Stanleys books now apparently.

Glenn Robson only played once or twice as far as I remember. Terrible player. Didn't he score a penalty in the League Cup though?

And lets not forget le grand fromage, Fabien Bossy. Didn't some of the players claim in pre-season that he was one of the most skilful players they'd played with?

You're right JM - it was 2-1 against Cardiff.

Incidentally he made his debut vs Hartlepool in the game we lost due to a last minute goal by that blonde haired, buck toothed, annoying t**t that played up front for them, i still remember the c*nts celebrations.

Ian Harty. Scottish lad, played up front.
Ardem Ertem (?) Turkish defender I think.

Aye Robson played 3 games i think at the start of that season before being bombed out, and did indeed score a pen vs Bradford - i was at the game, think it could actually have been the winning penalty - i may be mistaken but i think its the only shoot out darlo have ever won.
