This is sad but I wanted to share it.
I came home from Saturday's match in a state of euphoria but the look on my wife's face said something was seriously wrong. My dad's care home had phoned to say that his health had deteriorated and I needed to get there straightaway.
Things were bad and he was slipping in and out of conciousness. He wasn't reponding to anything that was said , but having heard that in these circumstances the hearing is the last thing to go, I knelt next to his ear and whispered that Darlington had been promoted. His eyes flickered and he murmured "good" before slipping back again.
He's currently hanging on and receiving high doses of antibiotics while we're waiting to see which way things go (we've been here before). If it turns out to be the last thing I ever said to him, well...I just can't put my feelings in to words. Dad's 92 and been a Darlington supporter since the 1920s. Once a Quakers supporter, always one.

Many thanks to all who sent their best wishes. Dad never really regained conciousness properly, but I know that he slipped away happier in the knowledge that the team he supported all his life had been promoted.

Deepest sympathy too from this little Essex-based corner of the Darlo family.

Sympathy from West Wales also. At least he went after hearing some good news about Darlo, I realise that won't make things any easier for you and your family at the moment, but down the road you may find it a comfort.
