Weather this week

Post by carver30 » Sun Jan 13, 2013 12:04 pm

Looks quite snowy with temperatures well below freezing over night, can't see Wednesdays game on.

At present the grounds not to bad, if it gets a light covering snow on top before the temperature plummets this will actually protect the ground.

It's due for light showers from about 6 tonight but tomorrow we should be in for some more heavier stuff so given the low temperatures it's not going to go anywhere fast.

As has already been said, if the snow comes down onto ground that is not frozen, then actually it might insulate the pitch from very hard frosts later in the week. There is still a chance that the game could be played.

I just hope that if we do get substantial snow tomorrow that nobody decides to sweep the pitch.

Just checked the met office and it's due to get down to -7 on Tuesday night, so if the snow we get does insulate the pitch, we'll need volunteers to help clear it on Wednesday afternoon.

Hopefully nobody arranges a morning inspection.

If it gets as low as -7 then we're fucked. Snow won't insulate against cold that penetrating.

We need to hope that a) the snow falls and lies before the ground freezes, which actually has a good chance of happening this time, b) that we have plenty of cloud cover on Monday and Tuesday night which will prevent the temperature getting too far below zero. There is a good chance of this happening too, under what is looking like being a showery air stream.

Getting a sufficient number of volunteers across in Bishop on a Wednesday daytime could be a job in itself, but you'd hope an inspection could be put off 'til at least mid-afternoon.

Snowing here, but the ground is nice and soft. That's good.

Its snowing in Melsonby and laying. I'd be amazed if the game goes ahead on Wednesday. At least it should mean that Spennymoor's game at West Auckland will be off tomorrow evening, shame.
