He may of been, but the council gave the go ahead and then promptly restricted it to 10,000.

Why give it permission? Why not say, look George, we'll give you permission to build a stadium. But change your plans and make it 10,000 capacity.

Can't of paid them much, else he would have had no problem putting on concerts etc.

Agree Reynolds got it wrong in what we needed, but the Council gave permission. Council then restricted things and I would say relationship between Reynolds and Council was pretty poor.

All in all a sorry state of affairs, I would like to see the Council support DFC now with help on the stadium, in fact I would have no issue with them paying for it owning it and charging us rent.

If only.

Relationships between Reynolds and everyone was pretty poor. The man was a fucking imbecile. The Council probably got tired of being bombarded with phone calls and visits in the early hours, and gave in to him, instead of having the balls to tell him to f*ck off.

Reynolds signed a 106 Agreement to carry out works in and around the stadium - these included stipulations to improve road schemes and elements of park and ride. He simply stuck two-fingers up at the council and expected to get away with it with no provision for large crowds either through concerts or hitting lucky in the FA Cup. There has been a concert at the Arena so you have to say "Did Reynolds even ask if he could have one?" - I suspect not.

The concert was during Houghton's reign wasn't it?

Or start a Darlington Beach Volleyball team. I'm sure that would fill it.

THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The 106 agreement was never complied with which would have provided for better infrastructure to serve the stadium.

I love the part about "the two ideas were to use it for sports or events."

Huh??

I mean, unless the land is leveled, what else could it reasonably be used for???

As regards the rest of the article, the words "shutting", "door", "horse" and "bolted" come to mind...

;)
