The Durham Miners Association has put its support behind a play that portrays a team of pitmen footballers from West Auckland in County Durham

They are so canny the guys from the Miners Association too. Their help is hugely appreciated and they are so enthusiastic. I'm away this Friday and Saturday so I can't go but I'm taking some things down today.

Tomorrow and Saturday some of the volunteers will be in the dolphin centre and will be bringing with them a mini miners exhibition. They have been exceptional and have also donated banners to us and are desperate for the alf Ramsay play to really be a success.

If anyone is in town tomorrow, can we make an effort to go in and see it, situated just near the main staircase and the volunteers from the association will be thrilled!

Talking about mining, the Durham gala is on 14th July and we have banners to promote our okay, any slight chance we could have some volunteers to go there and hold the banners. It's about 4 people needed per banner.

I'm in my iPhone, excuse the mistakes.

Are the banners going to be carried through Durham, with the rest of the the pit banners or are we setting up a stall on The Racecourse

When Darlington north Road railway works was put up for closure in the late 60's. Darlo' railwaymen asked the Durham Miners to come out in support. They would not. it cost Darlington around 6,000 direct and indirect jobs !!!
Stupid pit villagers did not comprehend that the finish of steam train building in Darlo and the move to diesel traction would mean less demand for uk coal. At the start of the seventies Labour started to close the pits, until the Tories completed the job. The miners asked the railwaymen and many other industries to come out in support of them many times during this decade.
I'm sure many true Darlo folk & families with railway history will join me is saying the Miners support is not welcome in this town and that they can go to HELL!
The sooner Darlington 1883 are back in this market / railway town the better. I am sure many will come around to this way of thinking once we see the vitriol that will be aimed in our direction when we visit these backward locations who regard us as posh & unfreindly Darlington ( Note - i have pit village relations ) !!!.
