Bishop Auckland - how to get there
Bishop Auckland - how to get there
As our new home now seems to be Bishop Auckland, can some clever person do something similar to the Shildon - how to get there?

Just looking at the satellite view, I think we will need to use coats for goal posts.

It's not on Google maps on either the satellite or street view.
Anyone got an aeroplane to go and take a few piccies?

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
The satellite view is miles out of date. Theres now a big Sainsburys next to the ground, a big Tesco over the road and a new development being built next to that. There's also a McDonalds, a KFC and a Starbucks near to the ground as well as a March Hare and a Brewers Fayre pub restaurants nearby.
Think it's the right decision even though Shildon's ground is only 5 mins walk for me

Well, it will take longer to get too but it's a much nicer ground than Shildon.

Na, That'll most definetly be the main singing area, but just imagine if we can get that terrace full, the noise would be amazing.

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
The X1 bus route seems to go past both the station and the ground plus you could always catch it from Darlo anyway.Dave_from_London wrote:How far away is the train station?
There are numerous threads about supporters' transport up to the ground so I think you'll be fine - I'm an exile too and living in the same village as you by bizarre coincidence
I am sure details of special buses will be available before too long.
Also, the train arrival and depart times give you lots of time to get to and from the station on Saturdays.

I hope so, cause the tuesday night games are starting to worry me about actually getting home.The_Ponderer wrote:The X1 bus route seems to go past both the station and the ground plus you could always catch it from Darlo anyway.Dave_from_London wrote:How far away is the train station?

@Big Tim, I am sure I saw a thread saying that the Supporters' Club were looking after transport.
I wouldn't worry too much - I think the local bus firms will be rubbing their hands now.

I'll knock something together like my Shildon post unless someone beats me to it.

Yeah its weird how so many Darlo fans live in The Big Village. Maybe the local bus companies could do a special service for people like usThe_Ponderer wrote:The X1 bus route seems to go past both the station and the ground plus you could always catch it from Darlo anyway.Dave_from_London wrote:How far away is the train station?

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
on a positive note the Sainsburys in Bishop is the cheapest petrol station in the area - always seems to be a few pence cheaper than Darlo - so I certainly will be filling up either pre or post match - will negate the cost of travelling to the match in the car.

Looking at their home page (links) it looks like they are also active on Twitter and Facebook. Also found a Facebook page for Heritage Park.

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
Great News (although i'm not fussed where we play as long as we have a club)
Given the parking we had at the souless bowl and the number of fans that appear to trave from outside the area to matches (because granted the busses from Darlo look pretty good) is there going to be some though put into providing additional parking on. I dont mind paying if some sort of deal is struck with a supermarket etc say. Equally i'm not bothered about turning up early and doing a bit of a walk but the last thingwe want is disgruntled residents!

Does anyone know where the Shildon post went? Was hoping to get a lot of info from there, and just replace it with Bishop stuff...

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
By Train
Bishop Auckland does have a train station but if you thought the walk to Neasham Road was a chew, this will certainly be too much for you (1.8 miles).
I've mapped out a quick map for those of you who might wish to walk from the train station (http://bit.ly/JBDesa).
Train times also aren't the best from Darlington to Bishop Auckland and I've detailed some of the times below*
Darlington - Bishop Auckland
10:54 - 11:20 *
12:54 - 13:20 *
Bishop Auckland - Darlington
18:02 - 18:28 *
19:25 - 19:51 *
An adult return also comes in at £4.60, however there is also the option of a Northern Rail 'Duo' ticket. Which means if 2 adults travel together the 2nd gets half price.
* All times are based off a Saturday
By Bus
Bus services are certainly better than rail services into Bishop Auckland, with most stopping only a couple hundred yards from the ground itself. Buses from Darlington include X1 & OK1.
Darlington (Prebend Row) - Bishop Auckland (Tindale Crescent) - (X1)
15 & 45 minutes past the hour - 43 & 13 past the hour *
Bishop Auckland (Tindale Crescent) - Darlington (Prebend Row) - (X1)
17:16 - 17:45 *
Darlington (Prebend Row) - Bishop Auckland (Tindale Crescent Club) - (OK1)
17 & 47 minutes past the hour - 47 & 17 past the hour *
Bishop Auckland (Tindale Crescent Club) - Darlington (Prebend Row) (OK1)
17:34 - 18:04 *
* Again all times are based off a Saturday
By Car
By far the more popular route for most people. Getting to the ground from Darlington is a simple task which although google maps say it should take 21 minutes, for most drivers this should actually take no longer than 15 minutes:

The ground itself has a limited amount of car parking spaces (120 vehicles, including disabled bays) but there are various other alternatives within short walking distance (including on street parking similar to Shildon). Just be sure not to park in Sainsburys Car Park as they have a no parking notice in effect on match days. I've put a few on a handy map (work in progress):

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
i live close to Bishop and i can assure you the distance between the railway station/ town and the ground is more than 1.8 miles..... from Darlo if youre using public transport the bus is perfect is stops at Tindale Crossing which is a 10 min walk from the ground

10 minute walk?! It only says 300 yards on Bishop Auckland's website. Which I believe is correct.willphil wrote:i live close to Bishop and i can assure you the distance between the railway station/ town and the ground is more than 1.8 miles..... from Darlo if youre using public transport the bus is perfect is stops at Tindale Crossing which is a 10 min walk from the ground

Re: Bishop Auckland - how to get there
well if you live in Shildon you'll know that nots true, it was more than that from the station to Kingsway....Darlofan97 wrote:It only says 300 yards on Bishop Auckland's website. Turn right out of the station, turn right up cockton hill road, past hospital, straight across Cabin gate lights, onto Watling Road, straight over roundabout (new firestation on left), up to next roundabout at Tindale Crossing, straight over roundabout, straight up and ground on right after 5/10 minute
Bout the same distance from town clock to the Arena

I think me (and DarloFan97) are arguing how far you think Tindale Crossing is to the ground.
