And what a night that was. Felt like we were going to score every attack. I remember Corky doing an outrageous dummy on the halfway line and making a beeline for goal. Sure the crowd was around the 5,000 mark that night too

2,904

Team: Prudhoe, McJannet, Gray (Coverdale), Willis, Smith, Corner, Robinson, Toman, Borthwick, Cork (Mardenborough), Emson.

The other goals were scored by Emson and Borthwick.

I missed this game because the bus didn't turn up. Still bitter about that.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Will never forget that dummy from Corky. I was a ballboy at the Polam Lane end that night and a bunch of schoolmates were behind the goal. I wandered over to chat to them and one of them, who wasn't a particularly big fan of football, was well delighted with Corky's magic.

I used to keep a wine bottle cork in my pocket to bring Corky luck . . .

What a twat
