Fordy said that the players were all actually signed on contracts, not pre contracts.

Whilst sometimes clubs will wait until the players old contact expires before giving them a new one, I believe clubs can actually sign players up to new ones before the old one expires, if that is what they want to do.

I think we will find that Kidd has found this job much harder than he expected. He probably naively thought he would just pick up the phone and players would sign for him ... but in reality has found that many players see Darlington (in the cold north East) in the BSP is a step too far.
Since he was appointed there has been not 1 piece of positive news (Assistant appoined, player, etc. signings). I think he has been working his puds off trying to get things moving and has got nowhere. He is now realising that his contacts are weak and his persuasive abilities are not as strong as he had hoped.
He probably had a checklist of players ... which he has now worked through and has had zero success with. So he is looking at a whole bunch of compromises ... resulting in the probabiltiy that he will not have the squad he expected and is now feeling like a failure. The warm feeling of working as second in command is replaced by the stark reality of being on his own in full command ... and he doesn't like it!

I'm still in frigging shock! He said he was here to stay and help us get back into the league and now he fucks off after a few fooking days. What a fooking joke.

Come on Darlo; What is going? Why has he resigned?

The saga with Darlington Football Club never ends does it.

why is everyone so bothered about Kidd! we're now rid of the Davey era, Kidd was inexperienced and most likely useless. I think even we could do better than Kidd!

mikec's scenario may not be far from the truth. if its correct then a new man needs some decent contacts, charisma and a be a bloody good salesperson to get people to move here.

For once the article on the Gazette's website is not up to date. Kind of ironic really, considering the breaking news this morning

Bit of a surprise it happended so quickly, but lets be honest none of the Davey story (the DFC version added up) with various timelines, there's clearly more to all this than meets the eye.

What's the official line on our budget for the season?

The Gazette stories have been loaded the wrong way round - read the second one.

Interesting that it mentions Mark Cooper is monitering the situation, still wouldnt mind him in charge

Didn't Mark Cooper pull out of the race because he decided he didn't want to uproot?

I thought within a month of your contract ending you could sign a contract from the date your contract ends. I think this is to protect the player as well as the club. Because if it was a pre-contract agreement, the club could pull out at any time leaving the player in affect unemployed when the player could have had other opportunities.

I believe the players we have signed are in fact under contract but it all depends on whether any clauses have been included which would allow those players to leave with the manager....
I know at least one of the new players has signed lock, stock and barrel and as such couldn't go even if he wanted to. I guess (hope) it will be the same of them all or we really are up sh1t creak...
