Not a great draw, having home advantage is the only potential positive.

Re: Darlington v Banbury Aug 20th
Without Wheater and then with Lawlor forced off this is where the massive weakness in the squad lies. We have attacking overkill that in theory should see us create more than enough chances but at the moment it's not clicking and then nothing at the back to defend beyond our first choice. Needs addr...

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
Nothing is won or lost in August but I think it's fair to say that the set of fixtures we have upfront will give a bit of an indication to where we may be. Getting a home win against Gloucester was a good start but now we have Chorley and Southport away, Banbury home, Spenny away and Farsley home. T...

Re: Darlo v Rochdale
Bit of an unusual comment at the end of his post-match interview from AA. “It’s going to be a tough season because there’s so many teams going for it. And we haven’t gone for it as much as I would have liked but we’ve still got a really strong squad.” He also made a comment about “if a top player b...

1. Gabbiadini (home to Exeter 1998-99 season. Completed his hat trick by beating three men and then lashing one into the top corner from 30 yards) 2. Gabbiadini (home to Leyton Orient 1999-00 season. Hit one on the outside of his boot and chipped the keeper on an angle) 3. Martin Smith (away to ….?...

Noel Whelan is probably who you are thinking of from that infamous season. Keith Gillespie had a months stint in Mark Cooper's first season I think, though didn't pull up any trees either.

Re: Darlo’s worst XI
I would say that a worst XI should only include players that were signed onto permanent contracts rather than loan signings (which can be hit and miss). So on that basis here is my go: Michael Price - Goalkeeper Craig James - Defender Matt Plummer - Defender Exodus Geohaghon - Defender Clint Marcell...

Re: BTB - It's back
Staggering if we get near last season's total given the way things are. You wonder if it would be prudent for the club to make extra provisions for pledges not to be fulfilled at we get into winter this year as the price 'cap' goes up. Agreed, we don't know what the future has in store but at the m...

Re: NLN playoffs
Would not surprise me if they are doing what Bromley did in the NLS a few years ago, except they milk the extra revenue from the playoffs. Bromley on the other hand would start a season well, make themselves safe/flirt with the playoffs, and then drop off in the second half of the season and did thi...

Re: BTB - It's back
This has slowed up some bit since it's relaunch and I think 120k is going to be tough to hit in these harder times. I think getting any commitments between the 75-100k mark would be some achievement and maybe a more realistic target this time around. Wish I could contribute but haven't been able to ...

It was the way he led the club's demise. There were things he could have done differently that may have made things easier for us to revive the club instead he just left it to die and had no interest in helping it survive beyond his tenure.

I think we'll have to see which strikers are released by our local big 3. There will be someone like Charman in amongst them and we just have to hope we have the resources to attract them to the club. We have been good at resurrecting careers and giving them a springboard to get back into the profes...

Re: New stadium funding
A re-built darlington arena is surely far cheaper than a new ground on fields or waste ground. Pitch could remain and utilities will be in place. All would be needed is tin sheds behind each goal, main stand and flat area which could be built on in future, the spare land could be used for car parki...

Re: Gateshead v Darlington
Difference between part-time and full-time today. Gateshead were always going to be a strong and fit squad, we just can't compete consistently with a side like this. We gave it a go but as others have said it seems like once Wheater went off we were struggling defensively. I'm going to say it once a...

Why does it make uncomfortable reading...we are 10th in the league? I will say this again, we are nowhere near ready for promotion. The result yesterday is disappointing of course but the bigger picture is that we are not quite in a position to properly sustain a shot at the National League. Stop th...

Re: The ‘what if’ season
On the topic of whether this season will be one of 'what ifs', I don't think it will be necessarily. Covid and recruitment strategy held us up at the beginning. Eventually, we got going and then had a dip in form over Jan/Feb, followed by where we are now after a decent run. It's been an average sea...

Re: Darlington v Boston 26/03/22
There are currently about 6 clubs including ourselves in with a chance of the last playoff spot. I think it'll be a relatively low points total needed compared to recent ones to land it, which is why its been frustrating to have a slow start and the dip in form late January otherwise we'd have been ...

Next two home fixtures (vs Southport and Boston) will determine whether we want to keep our slim hopes of scraping the playoffs alive or just settling for the end of season cruise.

Re: UK Financial Crisis
I think in general you will see a thinning and shrinkage of the football pyramid. Some at the top will struggle with maintaining direct investment (relating to the current overseas crisis e.g. Chelsea), which then filters down through the pyramid as living costs rise, again through the current overs...

Re: Fylde v Darlo
I would say the overwheling majority of signings for this season have a positive tick next to them rather than a negative: Tommy Taylor, best keeper we've had in ages. Griffiths, solid enough, experienced full-back. Smith, good full-back who can link up well going forward. Rose, very good midfielde...

Re: New Ground Location
It could be possible to fit a smallish, Feethams sized ground next to the college alongside the railway lines but whether that land is available and residents would want a stadium there is questionable. I'd rather attempt to buyout Blackwell and mould it into a decent venue considering the investmen...

[ Are there people who genuinely feel optimistic about next season? Not sure anyone can answer that question at this point. A) We’ve got around 1/3 of the season still to play. B) We’ve no idea what the squad will look like in August. Feels a bit excessive to be trying to put a downer on next seaso...
