Re: Peterborough V Darlington
People need to start talking about the obvious....which is: 1) The decision to sell Kaine Felix 2) Opting against extending Finlay Barnes' loan 3) The decision to replace neither. Gowling has now finally seen the light & ditched 3/5 at the back, the problem being we now have a squad stacked with fu...

Playing Hazel and Nelson up front will get us relegated.QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 12:54 pmBest option imo is Hazell and Nelson up front with Salkeld playing wide right and Nkondu wide left, Platt and Hatfield CM and Rowe/Griffiths,Lawlor,Burton and Sukar at the back.
No brainer for me.

Re: Peterborough V Darlington
If Hazel needs a high quality target man to play alongside him, as people keep suggesting, and given that we are very unlikely to find such a player at this stage of the season, then sticking with Hazel up front seems a guarantee of relegation. In fact, if we stick with Hazel/Salkeld/Nelson up front...

Re: Exactly a year ago……
Worth remembering when fans criticise Armstrong - he got us there and it was always about more than Beck and one or two others. There is a lot of trashing of Armstrong on this forum which I strongly disagree with. Last year same as most years he was in charge, he was tasked with getting us into the...

Re: Peterborough V Darlington
A few days ago the Farsley game was a must win. We won. Now if we lose the next game apparently that must win Farsely game is meaningless!

Re: Farsley
It's interesting that 8 of the 11 today were Armstrong players. Most of the loans Gowling has brought in haven't been an improvement at all. Simms on the bench, Winfield not even in the squad. Maybe Gowling might slow down on his rapid recruitment and work with what he has.

Re: Farsley
The six matches thread showed this forum at it's best with lots of real support for the club but for me it really comes down to this game. We really have to win it - anything less and I think that's it for this campaign. People talked about the next six matches for a reason, we'll have a realistic ...

Thank God we have DJ at the helm, if he wasn't here I can't image where we'd be, probably bottom of the league and facing relegation to the NPL.

Re: GOWLING OUT
I highly doubt Gowling is going anywhere after six games in charge. The most realistic thing to do it is to stop throwing good money after bad and accept the fact we are probably going to go down. The next two games are very important. We have a fans forum after those I believe, and if JG is still w...

Not sure you can beat Futcher, although what was Colin Todd's record?

Not sure I'd trust this board to make another appointment, and I don't think DJ has much understanding of football to be fair. Do an impressive powerpoint presentation and you could have it yourself.

I’ve employed people over the years who may interview well and have good cv’s on paper but you can sometimes tell very quickly they aren’t up to the job. This is one of those moments for the board to be seriously discussing. We are going backwards quickly. They’d have been better off sticking with ...

Far too many incomings for my liking. Getting 09/10 vibes from this season so far. Another kid who has had very little football experience. This isn’t going to get us out of this hole. Gowling is taking a massive gamble with all these short term loans and allowing some decent, experienced, contracte...

Re: Darlington V Blyth
I know people keep saying that Hazel needs to be alongside a big man, but given that effective big strikers are hard to find, it would seem better to try and offload Hazel and replace him with someone who can play as a focal point, or at least can hold the ball up, lay it off, and link up with his ...

Re: Darlington V Blyth
However, I just cannot see where the goals are going to come from. We are devoid of any creativity. The strikers in the first half were far too isolated. It improved slighlty in the second half with the tweak in formation, with Ngandu and Hatfield getting pushed up behind Hazel, but I just cannot s...

Sadly I am forced to agree with the comments above. I am very much reminded of the Staunton situation when I think we ended up fielding a record number of players in a season. I think after just 13 games we have already used around 23 players and possibly another one to come in on Saturday. Having ...

Re: Parallels
Staunton did win a few games if I recall, Gowling is paralleling Paul Futcher at the moment! For those of you old enough to remember, Futcher took over in the latter part of the 94/95 season and didn't win any of his first ten games before getting the push. I do think November and December will see ...

If Hazel isn't served up with chances then he contributes absolutely nothing. Can't hold the ball up, can't lay it off, looks nowhere near good enough, gives us nothing up front.

Really solid performance all round, working as a team, everyone knowing their role, left feeling really optimistic for the future. The Q&A I mean.
The football not so good.
Another good performance at the fans forum and we should be safe.

Nobody is going to put in six figures per annum without wanting the controlling share. Why not? There’s loads of minority shareholders further up the food chain that do that. Their funding doesn’t just come from sky and one other person otherwise the majority shareholder would just take over all th...

I hope that everyone who has something to say, has their say and doesn't go mute when they got their chance to voice it to David Johnston and Josh Gowling. The Q and A event is with the board only. I suspect the main questions will concern why we are where we are as a club and what can we do about ...

No, we don't do another BTB. We already had a record one and there is only so much you can squeeze out of 1,000 fans. It's a tiny amount of people in reality. The only way to increase income is better commercial revenue and better gates. The people of Darlington never supported the club in large en...

Yarblockos' point was the one we were debating on the way back from the game and is key to whether we stay up or not. Do we have a decent enough squad who have been badly coached and therefore Gowling can get enough out of them, or is the squad so poor that a new manager couldn't get much our of th...

Re: Tamworth V Darlington
Just seen the goals. That second goal really sets alarm bells ringing. Clearly, Gowling wants us to play a certain way, playing out from the back and inviting the press. You might see it in the PL but not often at NLN level. I'd settle for a win by any means at the moment but it seems Gowling has a ...
