Re: The Bottom Eight, Tuesday Mar 03rd 2024
The Blyth fans have really got the jitters now and are asking when their new "moneyman", with big promises of the Football League, is going to spend a couple of quid to ensure they don't drop down to the NPL.

Re: The Bottom Eight, Tuesday Mar 03rd 2024
Before the game I think most would have taken a point last night and a point from the Spenny game. Last night's surprise put us ahead of that points haul and whatever Spenny's form they will know they've been in a game.

Re: Darlo V Scunthorpe
Jimmy Dean pulls on the hair shirt...owch.... https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2024/march/-player-jimmy-dean-post-darlington-a/ Somehow he just seemed to forget the basics of solid organisation and keeping it tight at the back even when, on paper, you've got the best and most expensive squad...

Re: Darlington v Banbury 2/03/24
The real deal is having a manager who is just down to knowing the basics required to win games. Not over complicating things and a million miles from what JG was attempting to do. We are right on the coattails now of those above and if and when we are above the dotted line I can see us staying ther...

Re: The Bottom Seven, Saturday Mar 02nd 2024
I wouldn't like to be going to Chester on the final day needing a win to survive. That would be a nerve-shredding day.

Re: The Bottom Seven, Saturday Mar 02nd 2024
If you look at League 2, which has 24 teams, over the last 8 completed seasons it gives a picture of what will probably be required. To finish 5th bottom you needed between 47 and 51 points and we currently have 37. So we may need between 10 and 14 more points from our remaining 10 games. The bit mo...

Re: Darlington v Banbury 2/03/24
We deserved our win even though they made a game of it in the second half after contributing nothing in the first half. They had some quite skilled young loanees who were full of running but it was their keeper who pulled off a couple of great saves and we also hit the post apart from the goals. The...

Re: Darlington v Banbury 2/03/24
Well, this can't have happened very often but it's Darlington V Darlington on Saturday. They've got a young on-loan striker called Lewis Darlington from Peterborough United. But their star loanee defender Charlie Waller has gone back to MK Dons after suffering a season-ending injury. Waller was man ...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
So they made an operating loss on the year of £63,376. The players wages and expenses were £210,316, plus transfer fees and loan costs of £25,237 and players medical expenses of £7,820. Another section mentions separate wages and salaries of £155,706 although it's not clear whether managerial/coachi...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
I think the owners at Curzon Ashton are frustrated by the tiny crowds and have spoken about how much more they could do if they were better supported. If it's 140 home fans when they're in contention for the playoffs, you'd have to fear just how low it could go if they were struggling. Mind they can...

Re: The Bottom Seven, Tuesday Feb 27th 2024
Looking at the survival fight, I noticed that Rushall are getting by with loads of loanees. They currently have seven loanees, all aged between 19 and 20, and all from clubs around the Midlands like Derby, Wolves, Walsall, Birmingham and Stoke. Not sure how many of them can feature together in a mat...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
Quite incredibly the Curzon manager has raised the question of whether the keeper could maybe have done a bit better with Hatfield's screamer despite his one-legged display of pain-defying courage and risk of further damage in battling on. If I was him I'd be having some serious words with boss Crai...

Re: Scott Barrow
Barrow knows all about serious injuries during his time as a footballer. Early in his career he fractured his thigh bone and said of that injury: "I was about 5 minutes away from losing my leg. Fortunately, I was well attended to by doctors and I managed to make a recovery, and that is why I enjoy f...

Particularly when the opposition keeper is playing on one leg. Don't think I've ever seen a keeper having to carry on when they are as hampered as that by injury. He looked to be in agony.

Re: Curzon V Darlington
I'll bet the owners of Curzon Ashton sometimes feel like they're pushing a large boulder uphill in terms of attendances. Last Tuesday's home game with Peterborough Sports attracted just 149 people. Must be a bit demoralising when they compete very well at this level. The ground's excellent (although...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
The Curzon Ashton player-manager Craig Mahon says he expects us to come and defend and concentrate on not losing. Maybe he'll be preparing for the wrong sort of game. I'm sure we'll be going there with attacking intent.

Re: Darlington v Buxton
I thought Buxton were a strange and limited side. Their main (or maybe only) attacking threat seemed to be based largely around bringing their two 6ft 6in defenders forward for set-pieces. I don't recall them playing like that the day they demolished us when AA was absent to look after his son in th...

Re: Darlington v Buxton
That was a real cannon-fire of a shot by Nelson to earn the Victory... sorry but it had to be done :D. Pleased that he made amends for Tuesday's misses and played such a key role in a crucial win. It clearly meant a lot to him. Maybe just the confidence booster he needed. We stuck at it despite the ...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
It's generally accepted that the club has been run with a very modest budget... and there were still losses to be covered by Platten. Unless there are substantially increased income streams and a huge rise in attendances those losses will be magnified if this guy splashes the cash. Blyth probably al...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
I've seen a suggestion that it was £1 with Platten writing off £700,000 loans. It is therefore said to be debt free. There is still no evidence that this new owner has been linked to successful, long-term companies ie not ones that have been dissolved without filing any accounts. The basis for trust...

Re: Darlington v Buxton
We continue to sign no creativity. What has happened to the £30k+? I would say that both Main and Cornish are very much creative players and very good signings. Just look at the chances Main laid on a plate on Tuesday. Watson also said that Rivers (who can be creative) had looked very lively in tra...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
You may be right. Blyth are playing at their highest ever level but Platten has had some fearsome stick from some fans after things levelled off or they struggled. Some said he needed to go because he was holding the club back through lack of investment. This new owner said the magic two words "Foot...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
There still doesn't seem to be any concrete evidence of this new Blyth owner's involvement with any long-term, profit-making, stable companies with healthy balance sheets. He says he is rich and successful and deals with the super wealthy around the world and has promised Blyth the Earth. If that's ...

Even just a small amount of research reveals more red flags than a match at Anfield. A fair number of Blyth fans can see behind the flannel and have some grave concerns.

I'm sure Blyth have done all the due diligence in the world over this Irfan Liaquat bloke who describes himself as a "Serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and deal maker." Maybe best not to read too much into the fact that his latest business, Winners Worldwide, was only set up less than a year ago w...

Re: Boston v Darlington 20/02/24
"I thought Darlington were much better than many teams we have played this season and we were fortunate to go in one up at half time, second half we were better and found a way to win." That's a Boston fan's comment on the match and he's right. In the first half, a neutral would have thought we wer...
