Re: Lancaster v Darlo Match Thread
We should also remember that it is not just the number of games but the intensity of them. The lads have had to play flat out for the full 90 minutes, often in higher than normal, energy sapping temperatures. No easy games, no spells in games when they can ease off and take breather in the way they...

Re: Bradford PA
I've seen Bradford Park Avenue many times at Feethams. We always seemed to stick 4 goals past them. Let's hope we can do it again. With Bradford City it was different. They seemed to be one of our bogey teams.

Re: Darlington v Stockport Match Thread
Just got back from the match; I thought this was the best performance yet, so far this season - hardly recognised us from the team that drew 2-2 at Altrincham on the first day of the season. Stockport really came at us right from the off, and I worried for us when they scored as a result of a dreadf...

Funny what you remember but I can remember Stockport making headlines when they put their admission prices up to 50p. I think at the time we were paying 20p at Feethams.

Don't know what it is about Beck that makes fouls and attacks on him invisible to referees.DarloDean wrote:Hardy on for me. But sub for Cartman. Assuming everything gone to plan.
On another note, I'm going with 12 pulls and grabs on Beck going unnoticed today.

Re: Darlington v Chorley Match Thread
We rode our luck tonight; Chorley controlled the play, can't remember us having a shot in open play during the first half. Most of our tactics were breaking up attacks and hoofing the ball downfield back to one of theirs. I'd like to report we were the best team tonight but we weren't. Chorley had l...

Re: Match Thread
I thought both sides were evenly matched; early days but if that's the standard of our new league I think we will do all right. I took my daughter as she lives near Altrincham and works for AECOM so she knew where to park. She has no interest in football; the only other match I'd taken her to was at...

1966 and all that
With all the current fuss about it being 50 years since we won the world cup, it suddenly dawned on me that it had to be also 50 years since I started watching the Quakers. I found that a sobering thought and suddenly felt very old. As a ten year old in 1966 I remember most of England's games in the...

Re: Jenny Chapman's resignation
IMO Jenny could probably do a better job than Jeremy. Joking aside, speaking as a Tory voter, I do think there's a strong need for a good effective Opposition, to call the government to account. That's not happening at the moment. The one bloke I took seriously was Hilary Benn. He'd make a good lead...

No precipitation here or occluded cold front moving in from the west.
Got a new shovel though.
Other than that, quite an ordinary day really; sadly the earth didn't move for me today; I moved it.

Re: The Tory Leadership Election Thread
Surprised it all happened so quick. Before all the predictable comparisons like Thatcher Mk2 etc are made, we need to give the lady a chance and not pre-judge based on prejudice and misconceptions. She says she wants to make things better for working people, not just the elite; that would be a popul...

Re: England - God we are awful
MK Darlo has hit the nail on the head with all of his points, and almost echos the comments on TV by Alan Shearer. Two things might cheer him up: Darlo would have beaten England easily this week, and Alan Shearer's in the running for the England job; I got odds of 16:1 on him at Corals. It would hav...

Pleased for Chris Senior. There's no doubt the Euros have been great to watch with victories for the underdogs. Wales and Iceland have really rubbed England's nose in it. And who would have thought teams like Belgium and Spain, with players like David Ford Fiesta and Cesc Fibreglass, would have gone...

Re: The new Top Gear, what do you think?
I'm a self confessed motoring addict, 2 wheels, 4 wheels, doesn't matter. Never watched the old Top Gear, wouldn't watch the new one. A while back I saw a bit of a Top Gear programme where the presenters were filling classic cars with water and trying to drive them. Nuff said. I thought Monty Python...

Re: National League North odds for 2016-17
People have made very valid points. I expect what will happen to be the same as always happens. The team will do their best, taking each game as it comes, dealing with the usual injuries, postponements and rearrangements, and we'll all have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully it will be somethin...

Re: Jenny Chapman's resignation
I don't live in the constituency and am not a Labour supporter so whilst not qualified to vote, I do have an opinion. It seems to me that those who set the agenda in the Labour party are influenced by those who pay them, e.g. the unions, and they want us to be in the EU. However, many Labour support...

England: Whose fault is it?
What with the shock over the brexit vote, the PM resigning and Labour in a mess, it just feels like everything's in meltdown at the moment, and England's shock exit from the Euros against Iceland just seems to put the cap on it. But as this is a football site I'll stick to the footie and just ask wh...

I was 13 at the time too. I remember an early scare when an Everton header smashed against the bar, but I remember too that Everton could only score after they had concussed our goalkeeper - play was held up for quite a time due to this. Tackles from behind were permitted back then and we were very ...

Best Quakers performance ever
Well this should start something off. I expect most will go for the Wembley final v Mansfield but I'd go further back to a League Cup match against Everton in 1969. Everton were currently leading the First Division, they had world cup winner Alan Ball in their side and Gordon West in goal. (We had T...

Look, this may be/probably is..a stupid question but it's asked in all sincerity; what is/was "the football share"?
I've heard of it, and know it was an important issue when the club was sinking. Can anyone explain? I honestly don't know what this was about.
Thank you.

A new start after Independence day would be very exciting. I'm voting for Brexit, but am beginning to get a bit worried about all the bad things we've been told would happen. Are we really going to get a plague of brown rats if we vote out, or are the status quo people (as some say) just being hyste...

Interesting to read how the Boro fans were singing their owner's name this afternoon. I've heard it's not like that on Tyneside. Looks like Sunderland might be the ones staying up. If the odds for Boro are 5000 to 1 to win the premiership, like Leicester were, wonder if they're worth a punt? Realy p...

My guess is that the top man at Virgin Trains would be horrified if he ever got to hear about what happened to this poor girl and would probably offer her some free tickets to somewhere. He's a good bloke.
