Re: If you had the opportunity....
airey & macdonald for me - as there was the usual zero optimism / expectation prior to their great season in 84 / 85. then Currie & Macdonald - and basically you could pick a whole bunch of games where Currie scored a beauty. Cork and Borthwick had a similar impact in that we didn't know what to exp...

Re: Fao superlidds / strike partnerships
And what's the bets we change the team / formation for the next game?
Again going back to 85 and 90 / 91 our team played one way all season whilst opposition teams worried and changed their style to try beat us...

Fao superlidds / strike partnerships
Totally agree re your point about encouraging a strike partnerships. The obvious one (if pos) would be hatch n senior. But when we've done well it's been airey & macdonald, currie n macdonald, cork n borthwick, gabbers n duffield etc. So it'd be good to try and have a stable front 2. Actually - it'd...

Re: Mark Cooper - Pro's/Con's
Dead right. Great eye for a player but negated by playing decent players out of position - very very odd.
The experiment with Gillespie - fair enough - but only worth a gamble to throw onto the pitch with 20 mins left and 2-0 up. Not throwing him into a winning team and disrupting things.

Re: What we need in January
Bigtim - dead right about getting a goalscorer who can do it all themselves. I think in all our best seasons we've had one of those: gabbiadini currie cork walsh but - said players are often rough diamonds and appear once in a blue moon. Quiteoften they're cast offs who by some miracle transform ove...

Re: Keith Gillespie
His 1st game was Versus Wrexham which was on the 20th, November and now its the 21st of December so therefore his 1 month deal is up. It will be interesting if Cooper offers him a deal however some of his performances have been dissapointing if i'm honest. I'd rather see Chandler play than Gillespi...

I'm not sure how signing more midfielders and average / journeymen players will help though?
I know its one thing persuading quality players to drop down, but what good will signing another keith gillespie do?

don't worry jjmick - my reply wasn't aimed at you - more bigtim who is either 8 years old, has a condition, or is dreadful at spelling and grammar. its highly noticeable how many people write could 'of' / should 'of' etc instead of should have, could have. Well we have have had a 'worst messageboard member' which is essentially the same thing except the title actaully made sense. Re: Hughton sacked!
There's 3 possible reasons for hughton getting the sack: 1. He wanted too much money for his new contract 2. "Newcastle" are bonkers and they feel they should have a big name manager in charge 3. Something else - probably financially / legally that's behind the decision my money is on number 3 ashle...

Absolutely spot on divas. Singh has given the funds to bring in players like senior, hatch, MBW etc - so this is all about making these players deliver the goods. Even cooper knows the answer from the good mini run we had. I'm a big believer in sticking to a winning formula and letting the oppositio...

Re: The problems....
I don't understand the clamour for a 20 goal a season striker. Even if we got one they'd end up not scoring - a la hatch and senior? What we need is a miracle and unearth a gabbers / dave currie on the cheap. Someone who needs no service, can jink past 3 - 4 players and ping the ball into the net fr...

My answers: 1. Thought Reynolds was a saviour. In fact he did ensure we could carry on in an uncertain time - and initially put his own money into building an exciting team 2. Nobody, but nobody, believed the premiership thing - even if he'd said 10 years! 3. Training ground bust ups? - the beginnin...

So on the subject of mental blocks, maybe £15 is the ceiling price?? Possibly experimenting
