Re: York City Transfer Targets
Our Directors need to be really strong when any offers come in from York. Nobody offers what they think a player is worth when trying to buy them, any offer will be below market value and therefore must be rejected. Also I don't trust BA, SG or our "CEO" to put their loyalties towards MG on the back...

Re: M & S
The Arena is still the coldest place on earth. Mowden manage to generate a decent noise despite the size of the stadium.
I'm not sure if the North stand is still permitted to host a crowd as they've built changing rooms in parts of the concourse.

Hindsight is 20:20, fingers can't be pointed for releasing a youngster who then achieves something. Maybe us releasing them was the kick up the arse they needed to push on?

Re: M & S
A major question then for those in the know. How could DFC be taken back to the Arena, when there is the problem of: a) the lease for BM having to be paid off in full (unless Mowden Park took it on and groundshared) Its a licence, not a lease! ( The club have stated this more than once. I do not kn...

Re: So, where do we go from here
I really do fear the club is heading/being manoeuvred into a position where sufficient people will buy the 'invest or die' scenario and be prepared to sacrifice the benefits (and limitations) of fan ownership for the promise of increased budgets offering on the field success in the next few years. ...

Re: Short-termism
We need to also know what is stopping the fans putting in, and mitigate any fears that we clearly have (I'm still amazed people haven't got the odd tenner lying about to keep the most recent fund going - it's stagnant). I begrudge donating anything while there's still talk of an investor getting on...

Re: New Team?
im hearing rumours from reliable sources that about 8 of last weekends squad have been told they will be shipped out of the club I bet someone has seen MG say "players will be leaving" and "8 or 9 players didn't turn up today" then put 2 and 2 together. I doubt 8 players will be leaving. Sent from ...

Re: Short-termism
in relation to an earlier post re Singhs involvement and a hypothetical Arena return? Dont think the goalposts have changed much since I last applied for one, but Football Foundation Grant rules mean a minimum 25 year lease on the ground has to be in place ( my club had to have ours extended to qua...

A number of you so called supporters of Darlington FC should take a look at yourselves and ask whether your actions are actually supporting or harming the club. Yes, things could be done differently. Have the lessons of earlier this year not been learned. After the seats fiasco, 2 board members res...

Re: Darlington FC V South Shields Match Thread
You don't need to build a team around Beck but that's what we have chosen to do. He's much more than a big lump up front. He has a good touch, makes decent runs and is (usually) motivated and dependable. It just hasn't come off for him this season. Yes he still has things to learn. When we are poor ...

Loan Star we treaded water for something like 17 years in League 2. Yes, during that time people called for the managers head and for different players to be selected. That happens at every club up and down the country. Rattling buckets are not necessary if we don't get investment, but they make ach...

I disagree with booing during a match but after a game like that it's totally justifiable.

Re: Darlington FC V South Shields Match Thread
Pumping the ball up to a target man, i.e. Beck, isn't a bad tactic in itself but you need another striker gambling on the flick ons and an attacking midfielder to be another outlet. Then when the opposition inevitably try to mark the target man out of the game you need to use the width to get crosse...

Re: Short-termism
To break the contract at BM would cost more than £200,000, maybe more than £300,000. We can't afford to leave. It's not ideal but it's what we have for the foreseeable. So the options are stand still for 20+ years and then try to get our own ground or develop BM to meet our needs. Sent from my iPhon...

You don't need to be fit to man mark someone. You don't need to be fit to make decent decisions. He was poor yesterday.

The season has officially ended. Bit extreme we are 3 points off the playoff places. But he's arguably right. Today was that bad. Plus we need £24k in 13 days for our ground development, which won't happen, so we won't have enough seats even if we make the play offs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapat...

We won't have enough seats so where we finish in the league this season is irrelevant. As I said on another post, aims this year should have been: 1) improve ground - FAILED 2) make a profit - unlikely 3) have a cup run - FAILED 4) make the playoffs - irrelevant as the 1) hasn't been met Sent from m...

Re: TOUGH TIMES AHEAD
That's an interesting thought. Terracing would definitely be the most cost effective way of improving the ground, allowing more people to have a decent view of the ground and increasing capacity should we get a big game. But would the inability to get promoted or in the play offs put off both fans a...

I’m not sure I’d ever be expecting us to bring any, or at least many players through our youth or reserve setups. Youngsters who’ve been released from other academies are a better bet. Anyone involved in Youth football will tell you that anyone good enough is hoovered up before they’re even ten yea...

Re: Short-termism
Earlier in the week, TDS suggested having a fans' forum. Initially I scoffed, but on the basis of today, I think it's now important. The wider fanbase certainly needs to discuss where we go from here in the long term. Do forums ever achieve anything? I'm all for a select group of fans to meet up to...

I'm not getting into the discussion on which players are good enough etc. A lot of is anger and frustration at today's abysmal showing. Some of the criticism has been fair. Some of it has not (some are suggesting Turnbull isn't good enough for this level and that MG should be sacked - which is knee...

However, he is right, the only way we will progress is with investment, I think we all know that. Oh, how different our season may have looked if we had not driven out what appears to be the only investor out there......another mistake? What a load of rubbish!! Re: Darlington FC V South Shields Match Thread
I donated because I thought that it was important to keep the squad competitive while we raised funds for the stand. I also contributed towards the stand as well. We also put the gate price up £2 to keep Gray's budget the same. However, that's now backfired, as our crowds have gone down as a result...

As for additional budget, get stuffed! You've had £40k extra too much! What a waste of money! I'm disappointed that his suggestion was followed by both the club and the fans that donated. I said at the time the priority has to be the ground. That money could have made a difference to our ground but ...

Re: Darlington FC V South Shields Match Thread
If players want to play football rather than just rotting in the squad without a game they can agree to terminate their contract. Or give them on a free transfer to other teams. That's how we can get rid of players on a contract without increasing our wage budget. The problem is, are any decent play...
