Re: The £365,000 question ...
cost us 365k How much was the arena said to cost per annum to up keep again? We can't change what we did and it was done under false pretense from certain individuals. Maybe if our ex-PR man had actually managed to bring some revenue into the club through alternate means then we wouldn't be in this...

Re: FUNDRAISING
Could we do a Fans Tournament this Summer? Invite fans teams from other local clubs and hold a tournament. Charge an entry fee, charge £1 or something for spectators do a few fundraising things on the day as well. If you did it over a weekend you could have 12 teams entering on the Saturday split th...

Re: If we'd had our current team last season.
The signs indicate he did something right at Newport (other than just score) or he has been doing something right in the reserves for Charlton in order for Colchester to want to take him on loan.

Re: Players suited and booted
Some Prem teams do wear suites, pretty sure Liverpool & Chelsea do anyway. MG has said he always wore a suit in his Sunderland days and I think it generally depends on the manager and what he expects. I thought that most teams change into collar & tie for post match awards such as MOM so don't think...

Re: If we'd had our current team last season.
They wanted to extend his deal so much, he went back to Charlton, didn't play and has now joined Colchester. That's Colchester in League One right? Newport in the Conference. Clubs send their players to the place where it is most beneficial - signs are good for Smith if Charlton deem Colchester to ...

Re: If we'd had our current team last season.
Qualities? Apart from standing around and missing open goals (see Hayes and Yeading), he had none. This is just my view. It will definately be disputed especially with so many who didn't like Smith. In terms of first touch, I think only MBW had a better first touch than Michael Smith when Smith was...

That was one of my favourite passes ever.
I know it helps to have the most instinctive finisher in the Premier League on the end of it, but still.

Re: If we'd had our current team last season.
Also Thompson clearly does not just have pace about him. He is very strong on the ball. His first touch is genuinely cock arousing and he can beat a player with ease. His issue is without doubt finishing but he also creates a shed load. Don't think I said that Thompson just has pace. All I said is ...

Re: If we'd had our current team last season.
We might as well have had a mannequin dummy up front. Or Michael Smith. But preferably the mannequin. A man who can't see the qualities of Michael Smith and you want me to listen to your views on Broughton! Broughton wasn't what we were used to, but his touch was nowhere near as bad as you are sugg...

Re: If we'd had our current team last season.
On Broughton, he never stood a chance. The amount of abuse he got before he had even pulled on a shirt was ridiculous. In the games I saw him I actually thought he held the ball up ok and he played the ball into the right areas. He was easy to point the finger at because he was slow and ungamely but...

If it was £50,000.02 then it was between 50k and 100k. In fact if that was the case he wouldn't be wrong to say "It is between 50k & 350million".

Re: Game off today
I'm wondering if the winds help dry pitches out at all. I don't know whether it would have an impact or not really - I can only assume if the water is spread out it can evaporate easier. Slightly warmer winds as well on the West than on the East could that have a slight impact upon evaporation as we...

Re: Players suited and booted
This is purely speculating. I would have thought those on contracts may be on £50-£150 per week basic but that would be BASIC (no match played etc.). These will probably be bumped up with £20-£100 appearance fees (depending which end of the scale you are the higher your basic the lower your appearan...

So it would be cheaper for us to pay it in expenses.super_les_mcjannet wrote:What we pay will be after Tax/NI. So take home would be £150 and then expenses if we pay them.
We might say to player there are no 'additional' expenses being paid - but it would be cheaper for us to claim a proportion as expenses payments.

Re: Players suited and booted
I remember it being posted on here at the start of the season that we don't pay expenses. Well that's not something to be proud of. If we go by micra's figures - you pay a player £150 - that player is only taking home £120 after being taxed at 20%. Why would we say no expenses, theoretically for a ...

Yes. I remember this was said about Theo Walcott as well, but when put on the spot whether his new contract stalled because of £10k per week he couldn't have deflected the question any quicker!micra3 wrote:Also remember MG has said that no player he has signed has done so for money.

Not sure how/if say West Auckland pay tax/NI or if they is a way round this that we don't do as we don't have a money man. There is, it's called expenses. I bet if you delved into the Northern League club finances you would be amazed as the distances which players are having to travel for games - b...
