Re: Henshall replaces Gillies
No we know nothing about Ainge and the 37 goals he scored in 9 months of 2017. Jordan Nicholson is clearly a good player, he scored the winner when Nuneaton beat us in our 2nd match at BM. Had a good game too. Hughes has played nearly 100 times in L2 so surely must have something about him. Henshal...

Re: Henshall replaces Gillies
Going to sit on the fence with this one. People are saying we have made a good signing, not sure how they can pass judgement on this as he has only made 37 appearances in 5 years. Agreed and in fact the Jury is out on all TW's Summer signings. We all have views on the strengths and weaknesses of th...

Re: Josh Gillies
Genuine question - where does this "he lacked heart" and "he was pea-hearted" stuff come from? Yes he didn't charge around the pitch like a nutcase. And yes he didn't go barrelling into challenges. But that wasn't and will never be his game. I personally think he did show plenty of "heart" but beca...

Re: Rumour mill
Darlington may be a unitary authority but it is still in County Durham. Here endeth the lesson. It’s not though. All counties are a derived from the two-tier structure of local government. The county system has gradually eroded since the government began awarding unitary status to towns and cities....

Re: Rumour mill
Darlington isn't in Country Durham though so can't compare them to us.. Spot on. Neither is Gateshead, neither is Artlepool. All Unitary Authority Areas. Some people love living in the past. Like that Boro lot saying they’re still in North Yorkshire...no you’re not, shut up. You live in a Unitary A...

Re: Reserve team disbanded
Actually that's a very fair point. Is it plausible for a squad of our level to have a 22-year-old still in a reserves/U23 team? Probably not. They'd either have progressed to the senior squad or been released. I guess the flip side is, if we're looking to develop our youth players (as every club sh...

Re: Reserve team disbanded
This is certainly the right decision, I also could never understand how this could ever produce competition for First team places. I personally am not sure about any Under 23 Team, surely at this level of football, if you are nudging 23 you are either good enough to be playing already or just not go...

Seconded Gramps. As has already been said good to see he can fill in at the back in an emergency.Darlogramps wrote:Very exciting signing.
If he's over his injury, he and Styche together should be a force to be reckoned with.

Re: Phil Turnbull Departs
There was a few times last season where Turnbull got the ball and his team mates streamed forward looking to start a counter attack, only for Turnbull to dither on the ball and go for a sideways or back pass, sometimes losing the ball, other times completing the crablike movement, but generally kil...

Re: Phil Turnbull Departs
Our best player over last 3 seasons by a country mile and very difficult to replace. To say he didn’t make tackles or score goals is crazy talk. My bet is that he covered more ground and closed down more play than any other player. Just ask the current players who they would least like to lose and ...

Re: Tom Portas
A good player plagued with injuries I understand what people mean by "plagued by injuries," but you could almost argue his most serious and lengthy injury was an "assault" so almost not related to football! He has been very unlucky, but I guess TW had to balance minutes played, versus his wages and...

Re: Scott, Mills, Milburn & Hume Released
Very good full-back at this level and highly dependable He is as average as fuck at this level. He was part of a defence that conceded 71 goals and part of the reason that 71 goals were let in. Spot on Q.The guy needed a passport to cross the half way line so his contribution to attacking play was ...

Re: Scott, Mills, Milburn & Hume Released
There is little point in keeping Bancroft if he isn't going to make the grade. I think TW must have belief in his abilities and hopefully he'll get a chance to show us what he can do in the near future. Am I missing something with this keeper? I know he was on the bench loads of times before the en...

Re: Darlington RA relegated
Massive shame for RA, remember in the 90's playing against them in Darlo District League on a Sat and they went on a great run to end up Northern League Div1. I always hope we play some kind of friendly against them each year with a few first teamers to get them a decent crowd. Hopefully they will ...

Re: Darlington RA relegated
Darlington RA have been relegated into the Wearside League after a 4-0 loss at home to Hebburn Town. They started the day 1 point above Brandon United, who won 4-0 at home to Bedlington Terriers. MG has released a number of players from York. Interestingly he says he won't sign any young players, only seniors who have done it at this level. You don’t want James Gray?! I genuinely laughed at his performances when we had him on loan first time round. How he has gone on to have another 5 years in professional football is completely beyond me. I'm a 24 year old accountant, but he genuinely gives me hope my shot at full time football isn't...

Good day today, with a great atmosphere. Loads of effort all over the pitch, with o hanlon probably mom for me. Finished 4-2. Worst performance of the season? First 20 minuets we looked ok , after they got the equaliser there was only one team in it and it wasn’t us very disappointed To be fair, they had their chances in the first 20 minutes too. Could’ve been a different game though, at 3-1 I feel like the ...
