Re: tactical formation for buxton

If Youhill isn't fit and no new right back is brought in I would put Mitchell at Right back and play 3 in the middle ...Porteous, Turnbull and Nowakowski,,,Then play with 3 up front with Thommo, Dowson and Cartman. Hopefully bringing on Army sometime in 2nd half. Question for you Gramps is Who would...

Please do share how disputing your opinion was in anyway different to how you challenged darlogramps!? Or is it that you just don't like the boot being on the other foot? Bale was always touted as a left midfielder come left back, when he made his break through at Southampton he was played at left ...

Re: tactical formation for buxton

I wonder if Manutdgramps (Man Utd version of Darlogramps) wrote similar when Antonio Valencia (bought as an attacking right midfielder) was moved back to wingback by Ferguson...Or Spursgramps did the same when Bale was switched from left back to attack. Sometimes it is what is best for the team as ...

Re: tactical formation for buxton

Marvellous - let's neutralise one of our most effective attacking players in Mitchell and go into the season without a recognised right back. If we start the season with Mitchell at RB, Gray has screwed up over this position. Mitchell should not be our first choice RB. He's ok as a makeshift full b...

Re: Preview for Spennymoor v Darlington

Just back from the game, thought the scoreline flattered Spennymoor, we didn't deserve to lose by 3 goals. We didn't seem to have much penetration up front, although Armstrong did well when he came on. Not sure about Gibbons he did some good things, but was out of position for their first goal Jame...

Re: Darlo pre-season review

Yes, a good review. I am not worried about the long throw not being there. There are other ways of getting the ball into the box, chances are that from normal play White or Burgess would be down the field anyway. I would have liked to see Watson get more game time during pre-season as I think he is ...

Re: tax payer funds premier league club

No I don't to be honest. If Newcastle built a new ground in Darlington I wouldn't class that as costing us money. You think Leyton Orient fans are now going to become West Ham fans because the ground is a what a whopping 1 mile closer to their ground than the current stadium - what is that in Londo...

Looks like they got a better deal than we have been offered by DRFC.
They got £76 million for finishing 12th and are only paying £2.5 million rent and that includes stewarding and policing

Re: Burgess to be Quakers new skipper

Very happy that Burgess will captain the side, as he will be in the heart of our defense, so he should be able to organise everybody. As has been said..It's not the position that the man plays. It's the man who is captain. I'm sure that had Burgess played centre midfield he would have still been ca...

Yes. Happy days.
I remember waiting outside of the bus station with my brother (after a game)for the PINK to arrive.
We then caught the bus home and spent the journey reading up on the league tables and match reports.

I think it's time to call G for Gateshead. The International stadium is within the local area and has excellent transport links and is only a further 30 miles from Bishop. We cannot take our chances at Heritage Park being refused promotion next season would be disasterous. Although not ideal it wou...

I'm quite surprised and shocked to see that RA haven't been included in our pre-season itinerary. A historical fixture that I hope isn't being jettisoned. We owe them a lot. In what way do we owe them anything? I could be over-playing this but I recollect they were a significant part of our story a...

I know it is a regular feature, but why are we playing Whitby this season? Liking the look of some of these. South Shields will be the first game back at Filtrona. Also, Harrogate Town will be good. As will Spenny. I find it strange as well. You usually don't play teams from the same league in pre-...

And I don't think Quakerz was calling fans wankers for the style of play they like. He called them wankers for making out we're a long ball team when the truth is we're not. So when we have to be a bit more pragmatic and a bit more direct, some put that down as "hoofball" which is not the case. Cor...

Re: Hatchy stays! Welcome Rob Youhill!!

I think the style of football we play is fine. We are not a long ball team, we have too much quality to play like that. The only time we play hoof ball is when we have run out of ideas or we have fallen behind and then we revert to aimless hoof up field. I agree with you 100%. We play direct footba...

There isn't a right style or wrong style for playing the game. Just because players such as Thompson & Mitchell aren't tall it doesn't mean that playing direct or with the early ball forward is not suited to them. Players of that sort, Youhill also, benefit when they can get 1v1 or in space between the lines- situations that arise of an early ball turning roun...

Re: Hatchy stays! Welcome Rob Youhill!!

I'd start Dale over Thompson on the left wing and rotate the two. Thompson could also be rotated on the right or behind the strikers as and when. As for McTiernan. My first thought is he'd play alongside Portas, instead of Scott. But it's the strength in depth that's important. Can't do it with 15 ...
