Re: Scarborough Fa Cup
Getting relegated to the NPL would not be catastrophic. Yes we'll probably lose a few off the gate but if we retain our core support we'll find our level again which I believe at this moment is actually the division below. We need cup runs as this is really only our other opportunity during a seaso...

Re: Scarborough Fa Cup
Thought we were the better side second half but no FA Cup income stream coming in this season. At least when we come to sell our players in January no one will actually want to buy them. hospitality good today but some very glum faces, come on DFC board do something anything to improve the squad fo...

Re: Scarborough Fa Cup
Just to finish off the negativity. Surely we should not have to find out via social media if a key player has been transfer listed? Also, have not seen any communication about Mustoe who just seems to have disappeared? Also don’t think our club liaison person or whatever called should be posting an...

Re: Scarborough Fa Cup
When it's also obvious that AA trecked down to Wrexham for his son's £500k transfer and decided to not fulfil his duties as manager of the club against Buxton, it probably then isn't best for our Head of Media to open up an interview a few days later with 'Alun, hope all is alright with you', as if...

Barns last game, back to York, Not been that impressed with him tbh, hopefully scope to bring a new signing in.Same with Felix, personally would let him go and bring someone else in. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Hopefully a tall talented striker! Yeah. Haze seems in a permanent daze. He doesn’t...

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
We are in a bit of trouble. Gowling needs to learn, and he needs to be ruthless, quickly. Moke needs taking out of the side. Weak in the challenge in the build-up to the first goal and then set-up a really good chance for Gloucester in the second half. Booked for the third time today (all down to p...

Re: Darlington V Gloucester
That first half proved one thing - you can’t polish a turd. Lots of possession, little creativity or goal threat, and the usual defensive frailties. I’m sure it will all change in the second half, following a rousing team talk from the new man, and some astute tactical substitutions. Poor result, w...

We are also a part-time club with a small budget. We aren't going to get a manager with 1.75PPG. That's funny, the last manager we appointed had exactly that  OK, well maybe we would have got a 1.75PPG manager if we'd found someone who managed at a lower level and had success, but either they ...

We are also a part-time club with a small budget. We aren't going to get a manager with 1.75PPG. As AA's cup record was often taken into account it's also worth remembering that Gowling took Hereford to the FA Trophy final in 2021 and the FA Cup first round last season.

Re: Alun has been sacked
And this is my issue. Quite remarkable how people are willing to return to the two things that nearly killed the club, one being private ownership, the second being the Arena, just for another go at the Football League. We get there, and then what? People are talking about the Football League like ...

Re: Alun has been sacked
Even at its best it wasn't a very nice place to watch football. Cold, vast, empty and soulless. Yes I realise we're talking comparisons to Blackwell, but I'm just talking about it on its own terms. Even compared to other modern stadia it's a crap place to watch a game. But at least you could see th...

Re: Alun has been sacked
To me it all boils down to one thing having your own STADIUM Agree, whoever comes in we need a Stadium fit for promotion which after 3 years of talking about it hasn’t been resolved. We do have a proper Football Stadium in Darlo and that’s the Arena let’s just get back there me crack on. Surely we ...

Re: Alun has been sacked
We have an excellent fan-base, but not one which you would say could sustain itself as an EFL club. i disagree we have 1000 who will stick with us thru thin and thin as the lack of home wins this year has proven and an excellent away following for this level as many clubs have thanked us, and reinf...

Re: Alun has been sacked
Gateshead benefit from a group of local business people (who are also fans) who are willing to bankroll the club along with a fan group that owns 20% of the shares. It seems to be working for them and they benefit from sympathetic and supportive use of local authority owned Gateshead Int Stadium. H...

Re: Alun has been sacked
Where are our investors then? I know of at least one seriously wealthy person who was putting money in, mainly in sponsorship, and offered to put far larger amounts in (talking BIG money) but an argument with a club official over something that happened at a match put paid to that. Now his interest...

Re: Alun has been sacked
Most if not all of the other teams have their own ground we have nothing even talking to some Boston fans the other night they did not know the ground was not ours and were amazed when i said we rent it. That to me is the biggest problem with moving forward Our own ground would be a real boost, but...

Re: Alun has been sacked
Where are our investors then? I don't know, maybe a Darlington fan has never made a successful business? But it's not an investor, its a benefactor that's needed, and it is for nearly all football clubs, there is no return on the money put in, except status and maybe the fun of owning the club you ...

Re: Alun has been sacked
No, there isn't. Also, what is this better match day offering? Why wouldn't you just pay a lot less to be up on the balcony? I am amazed that people do actually genuinely believe there are investors lining up willing to part with significant sums of money to invest in a loss-making football club fo...

Re: Alun has been sacked
I’m sure there are some well heeled individuals out there that would put money in, maybe 10-15 individuals putting in £10-15k each who would get a better match day offering, a possible pay back on a cup run but realise they don’t own the club. Does anyone know whether the current DFC board director...

Re: Alun has been sacked
Old Git’s musings are getting extreme. I have visions of him rounding up “the board members who extended his contract” and frogmarching them at gun point to a cash machine. “You vill provide extra funding - you vill get out there and try to find someone - villing to put some money into the club” …....

Re: Alun has been sacked
If a new manager hasn't turned things around by the new year then I would think the only way we are going to get out of this mess is to have another BTB. A new manager needs a chance to bring in his own players.

Re: Bishops Stortford road closures
Judging from what I saw today then this team is going down. We've clearly been one of the the worse sides in the league for the whole of 2023, so this isn't a new problem. Bishop's Stortford are poor and will probably go down, bit so will we. Barnes was probably our best player. Thought Hatfield and...

There’s a lot of lazy people on this thread who can’t seem to name a manager that hasn’t either worked here before or has Darlington connections. Re: Alun has been sacked
I'm not sure you could fairly describe AA's time at Blyth as "streaky". They absolutely romped the NPL title with a huge points total (14 points ahead of the runners-up) and then finished 10th and 6th in NLN. It suggests a team that overall was consistently very good. I didn't mean streaky as in lu...

Re: Alun has been sacked
I always got the feeling that AA didn't really know why things were working when we were winning or why they weren't working when we were losing. Regardless of the opposition, he seemed to send the players out with minimal instructions beyond "express yourselves". When confidence was great we could ...

DJ it’s over to you now. I think you know what needs to be done. I know people are loathe to criticise DJ, but we are bottom of the table on his watch. He doesn't select the team or sign the players, but utimately he is steering the ship, and we have been on a downward slide since the turn of the y...
