Re: Spennymoor tonight.

With the greatest respect Spen, mentioning ‘snide comments’ when you speculated financial disarray not so long ago on social-media when we announced some form of reduced deal (season tickets?) really is ironic.

Re: Spennymoor tonight.

Strong rumours that Spendy have signed centre forward Shaun Tuton from Chester. Has only been at Chester for a week or so and was apparently on non-contract terms. It's maybe that vibe again :D No knocking them down is there, just how do they do it if Groves has stopped funding them. Where is the m...

Re: Brackley Away Sat

It’ll be interesting to hear Lo’s opinion on Brackely’s first. TW mentioned about Maddison being stronger, but looking at the goal-cam it seemed that Ndlovu did a little more than just stand on the keeper. It seemed quite a clever way of freeing up a free-header in the box IMO.

Sounds like another good performance, and it’s great to get our first win of the season.

I wasn’t expecting much from today being totally honest, but it sounds like we were clincial.

Spennymoor put Taylor on O’Hanlon throughout the game, and then who marks Boyes - and the other lads that Spenny had forward?

Good performance tonight, 4-4-2 - feel deflated to concede late on, but we’re getting closer IMO.

Re: Darlington FC V Curzon Ashton Match Thread

I guess the hindrance with 4-4-2 is that it may leave us a little open through the middle. Last season Syers would drop-in but it’s clear we want to try and get the best out of Styche & Ainge. Either way I’d be tempted to go for it - if Henshall is as good as TW says he is then give him a start on l...

Re: Darlington FC V Curzon Ashton Match Thread

The first 25 minutes was good, the game-plan worked - Curzon struggled to pick-up Nicholson and we were exploiting the middle. Well-taken goal by Ainge who is a monster in the air, and we looked in control. The problem was though that we just stood-off and didn’t press (to be fair I think this is of...

Re: Tom Elliott

Hopefully he can cover RB too. Pretty happy with that squad now. We only have 6 defenders, one being a 19 year old youth, one being permanently injured, and one often injured. I'd say we need 2 defenders. I know Elliot can cover right back, I know Ainge can drop into defence, but that's not ideal. ...

Thompson always goes away around this time every year. We’ll have to do without for a few games.

Re: Tonight’s game v Northallerton

Is it possible that we just have two centre midfielders now? Rather than a holding and attacking CM. Wheatley and Hughes can seemingly both hold their own defensively and are useful in attack. As long as they communicate with each other I don’t see the need to have a dedicated holding midfielder. W...

Re: Tommy wants 3 new players

Agreed, I think the key this season is that we’re going to have a much smaller squad, probably around 18 supplemented with players such as Vaulks, Glover and Saunders, which means that it’ll reduce the chance of players missing out. It wouldn’t surprise me to see players such as Vaulks and Saunders...

Maddison Trotman O'Hanlon Galbraith Burn Thompson Wheatley Hughes/Syers/Nicholson? Henshall Ainge Styche Is that what we are thinking will be the starting line up if the season started tomorrow? Re: Tommy wants 3 new players

Nicholson has a solid record at NLN level - hopefully he turns out to be a good signing, and on paper this seems to be a coup by TW. Wedderburn fits the bill too - left-footed defensive midfielder who can play in numerous positions including centre-half. I’d take either him or Elliot, or perhaps bot...

Re: Tommy wants 3 new players

Nicholson is more of a left-winger or second-striker than a centre-midfielder.

Talks ongoing with a Championship goalkeeper, (hopefully Pears).

Re: Tommy wants 3 new players

Pretty sure Green can play out wide as well. The dream trio would be Pears, Elliot and Nicholson for me personally (would be happy with Blyth though) Agreed with regards to the selected three - Pears was oustanding last season. One thing I noticed is that both goalkeepers that we are considering ar...

Re: Tommy wants 3 new players

If Jacob Blyth does have a long-term injury then we can rule him out. I’d love us to sign one of Elliot, Chambers or Nicholson. I don’t think it would be Green, he is a very good player but he is a more advanced midfielder as opposed to someone who sits-back. Elliot seems to fit the bill, holding mi...

Re: Liam Hughes signed

Seems like a decent signing to be honest. I expect him to play through the centre, E.G, CM or behind the forward/s.

I think that’ll probably cover us in the middle with Turnbull, Wheatley, Hughes, Glover and Syers - providing that Wheatley doesn’t get snapped up at the V9 Academy of course.

I just have a feeling that a couple of players we could be working on are from Nuneaton given the circumstance there.

Another name to throw into the ring - Jordan Nicholson. 24, attacking midfielder and released from Barnet. Played under Wright at Nuneaton in the previous two seasons. Re: Tom Portas

Albeit a risk, it could be that decisions like this have to be made for financial reasons. For example, the squad was too big at the end of the season and Wright has to deal with a budget cut whilst looking to bring in 2/3 of his own. As an example we definitely need a goalkeeper, and even David Joh...

With the departures of Marrs, Mills, Scott and Brown the squad now stands at 19, however this includes Bancroft, Vaulks, Glover and Saunders. You'd have thought Burgess and Caton would like to play regular football, but I do think it'll be difficult to offload both. I fully expect Hunter to be given...
