Re: DFCSG AGM
There has been substantial work undertaken in the background on ground restructuring for the future, including meetings with Northumbria Water.. This has pricked my ears up, what sort of things have been discussed with NW? Because let's face it if the pipe problem goes away that makes a massive amo...

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
I wasn't at the game yesterday but was thoroughly entertained by Mr Cansfield and Mr Winter on Darlo Fans radio - was it Hall or was it Nicholson had me in stitches for a while. On the Tommy debate, I think we are where we are. I think we have reached a ceiling of where we can go until the stadium ...

Re: Darlington v Stockport
I’m desperate for this to work for TW, but today was poor again. The formation suited us more, we defended well for large-parts, but there isn’t much else to shout-about. We just don’t look like a team, there doesn’t seem to be any understanding in the forward play. Ironically we’ve gone from a team...

Re: Darlington v Bradford (Park Avenue)
Must say the highlights don't make for good viewing. Zero movement or coherence between team mates - it looks like training ground issues to me, particularly relevant given the questions over our fitness relative to our opponents and our injury record. We look like a team of individuals to me. Yep....

Re: Darlington v Bradford (Park Avenue)
How many times has Ainge actually played up front this season though? Four, maybe five? He missed 2 matches through injury, he played 2 or 3 in defence - he hasn't had a huge amount of time in the position that we signed him to play. IIRC, Styche and Ainge started together in the following games; D...

Re: Darlington v Bradford (Park Avenue)
Yesterday was disappointing, I haven’t seen us win at home since March. The first-half yesterday was so similar to the performances against Curzon Ashton and Altrincham. I didn’t really agree with the line-up, it basically read like a 4-1-3-2 with Elliot being responsible for the midfield. It wasn’t...

Re: Darlington v AFC Telford
I wasn’t there yesterday but it sounded like a strong performance. Personally from the games that I have seen this season Wheatley is instrumental in the middle and he has really gone up another gear since last season. Both him and Elliot have been outstanding when paired together. Great to hear tha...

Re: TW tactics......again!
Yep I didn't have much confidence when he was first appointed and yes he did strike lucky at Leamington starting a run which earnt him the opportunity to have the summer to revamp the squad. My opinion hasn't changed, we have started poorly. Granted injuries haven't helped but this is the risk take...

Re: Darlington V Alfreton Match Thread
Yep, I don’t think DJ would make any rash decisions either - as a club we need stability. TW deserves a fair few more games yet IMO, we’re not even in a position to even consider replacing TW so early in the season because things aren’t going our way. I still think there’s a lot more to come from th...

Re: TW tactics......again!
I think Gramps’ assessment is a fair one, as Henshall is yet to demonstrate he is better than Gillies albeit with limited appearances, but he may still well be given time.
Personally I think we could do with an Alan White style centre-half next to Galbraith.

Re: TW tactics......again!
He is tactically naive and inept, and I'm getting bored of saying this after every match. We are going to go nowhere other than backwards with TW. My question to point 4 is why not give them 10-15 mins, we could have a wonder kid waiting for an opportunity, if you don't play them then why name them...

Re: TW tactics......again!
No I haven't. However, you would think that there would be a pecking order to his selection of youth players rather than just plucking anyone to place on the bench. Glover for example has come on a few times and I think started a couple of matches last season, he has been held in high regard by TW ...

Re: Darlington V Alfreton Match Thread
If we have most of our missing players back next week, Galbraith,Wheatley, and O'Hanlon and we fail to beat Telford, then questions will need answering.Personally we are short of strong characters and leaders in our side, this league is as tough as it has ever been and IMO the bulk of the players To...

Re: TW tactics......again!
No positives from todays performance - other than Trotman. We had plenty of possession but Hughes and Ainge kept kicking for touch as if it was a rugby game plus we couldn't put enough passes together...... Styche on the wing! So we have let go of Heaton, Portas, Turnbull and Gillies and brought in...

Re: Ashton United on Monday
TW still needs to show he can make us hard to score against and hard to beat. Even today, good point though it was, it frequently sounded a bit too end to end and open. Most teams find it fairly effortless to score against us whether it's a Kidderminster or an Ashton although to be fair we are a bi...

Re: Ashton United on Monday
Positives - fought-back, a point is a good one after being 2 down in 30 minutes. Negatives - The defence needs sorting, 17 goals conceded in 7 which is the joint-worst in the league. Vaulks was on the bench today for Whitby so probably worth trying to get him back if possible. TW seems adamant on go...

Re: Darlington V Altrincham Match thread
Phil Turnbull - good player but whilst under-contract with us he said “come sign me” to a South Shields fan videoing him just after the season ended.
I also don’t think he provided much defensive protection, he did a good job but hardly broke up play.

Who's saying anything about ousting anybody. I merely stated Foster could do a job in that back 4 as centre half. Who’s saying anything about ousting anybody? Er, Seventynine? Foster is also 44 in December, so I don’t think he could do a job in our back 4. Have to admit he looked good in the legend...

Re: Darlington V Altrincham Match thread
Great post 83...totally agree. Only thing is whenever we’ve not played 442, fans say ‘we’re too narrow’ and ‘we need two wingers to put crosses in’ and ‘players don’t know their jobs’ etc. You’re right about the 4-5-1 (although Syers was pretty much a makeshift forward. Remember he only switched to...

Re: Martin Gray sacked by York
My comment was tongue in cheek, I'm not anti B.A. or S.G - however a little point lurks behind it, the point being - if you really want something you can often find a way to make it happen. As far as I know Tommy Wright (or St Tommy as you named him) doesn't have another job, is he full time or par...

Re: Darlington V Altrincham Match thread
I think for Ashton we need to do what we did post-Leamington last season - go 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1). That worked really well, there was a good transition between defence and attack, nobody really spoke about us being over-run and our form after Leamington was 7-4-3 IIRC. Something along the lines of - ...

Re: Darlington V Altrincham Match thread
Well today was woeful. We had no game plan, and I can’t really remember any patterns of play going forward. In the middle we looked outnumbered, we couldn’t deal with the press across the park and they just kept getting in behind time and time again. Maddison kept the score down to 3 and I really fe...

Re: Darlington V Blyth
Obviously the initial reaction is disappointment because we battered Blyth and were well worthy of 3 points. BUT, that was a million miles away from the game against Curzon Ashton. We need to eradicate the error that caused their first, but I thought Galbraith and Burn were the pick of the back four...
