Re: Saturday's game

A draw away from home after twice being behind is ok. Can’t really work up a lot of enthusiasm to be honest. Feels like end of season apathy creeping in for me, with still a third of the games to go. Good job our players don't have your negative attitude then. In what was an entertaining game consi...

Re: What is your Darlington best 11?

Here's one for the real oldies amongst us, old fashioned 2-3-5 formation: Tony Moor John Peverell Brian Keeble Ray Yeoman Ron Greener Joe Jacques Neil Wainwright Bobby Cummings Lance Robson Alan Sproates Harry Kirk We will not see there like again. :D  Where's George McGeachie then ? Re: Telford V Darlington

Quote bga “time for the players to step up” - Too bloody right. Perhaps this particular match, or even just the second half of it should be treated as a one off event. The players out on the pitch were capable and experienced, but for reasons unbeknown to us (and it would seem A.A.) they appeared t...

Re: Telford V Darlington

Certainly seemed to have a good football brain during his playing days with us though to be honest I was thinking more of someone who has been around the block a bit more, perhaps even with no Darlo experience necessary With Gary Brown was in charge for a few matches before Tommy Wright. I would ha...

Re: Telford V Darlington

Well over 36 hours after that shambles and I've let the emotion subside. For my two-penneth I would definitely stick with Alun - he clearly gets the club and the caution required with funds and the need to develop and sell on in a way many other managers might not. He's also shown he can get his te...

Full marks Tommy Taylor for sounding out the idiot who I believe shouted out racist remarks after the award of the penalty.

I take your point, that all revenue streams must be explored, but rather than a school, maybe a room to use as a field study centre, based around football, I suppose similar to FiC. Field study to incorporate pond dipping, study of flora/fauna, species habitats, etc. There may be financial rewards ...

Re: Why did the keeper earn his corn ?

Taylors display on Saturday - and earlier games - made me remember Billy Elliot saying 'the keeper earned his corn' after a good game from the goalkeeper. Can anyone say what this means ? He also said of a player waiting for some surgery that he was 'ready for the knife' which is more straightforwa...

Re: Darlington Attendaces - One for the Oldies

Things have changed and 'woke' generation would be appalled to think fans used to go tooled up with home-made wooden rattles and rosettes in club colours (no expensive replica shirts in 1950's). The vegans would be shocked at the number of pies & volumes of instant Bovril hot beef drinks consumed, ...

Anyone remember oct24 1960? attendance 17057, followed by 21023 on nov 14 now that was what crowding was all about! Those games are still in the memory cells never to be forgotten ——- anyone else around who was there to remember? Was at both. Only 11 but actually had a reasonable view from the south...

Re: Darlington Attendaces - One for the Oldies

Having been in a crowd of 16000+ at Feethams I can only say that it was extremely uncomfortable and probably downright dangerous; you saw very little of the match, were squeezed from all sides and choked from fag smoke. But as others have said there were some outstanding performances and the stando...

Re: Darlington Attendaces - One for the Oldies

Saw a picture on Facebook showing results on 12 October 1968 Showing Darlington drew 0-0 with Rochdale in front of a crowd of over 7000. That season Darlington finished 5th, so just missed out on promotion and Rochdale went up, so fair to assume it was a top of the table clash. Further checks here ...

I use one other forum regularly, I won't give a name but they are OTT sensitive and if you mention one little thing off topic or use a word decided by them as iffy - you get censured. Just wondered if anyone knows who was at the 1st pre season training, only one I recognised was Ty O’Neill which would be quite delectable if we somehow got him in. Don't agree, there have always been technically gifted players but they are, I'm sure fitter now.
