Re: Gateshead v Darlington
George Benson has been much in my thoughts recently with Quakers messing with our emotions but after today his version of It's A Shame seemed about right. Never Give Up On A Good Thing though because The Greatest Love Of All should bear fruit next season. Only moderately drowning my sorrows because ...

As I predicted, but can we hold out - never give up on the Quakers (remember what makes you happy) c. George Benson.

Re: Darlington V Curzon Ashton
I think we should be a bit more realistic about todays game - which I didn't see - but we have no divine right to beat Curzon and we've done so well to get into a position where the result really mattered. Gateshead scored six today but I agree that it would be predictable for us to get a result the...

Re: Leamington Saturday
Whatever the quality of Leamington's playing surface I thought Mondal's goal was outstanding; worked from the back with pace completely opening up their defence. By the way, the Derby v Leeds game is a good watch on Youtube, the gentleman's disagreement between Hunter and Lee is interesting to see h...

Re: Darlington v Boston 26/03/22
Agree with Lucan - as a twitching knee jerker I'm very happy to be wrong and feel AA and his team have responded so well to the situation. If we do scrape into the play offs all bets are off.

Re: Darlington v Southport
Given the difficult circumstances leading up to kick-off I feel this was a really heartening performance from the whole team - and a good goal. It said a lot about the real ability Armstrong must have in the dressing room. I'd say the only signing he needs for next season is consistency.

Re: The Hodgy team of 99/00 - if they had been promoted
I remember that the condition of the Feethams pitch was a concern at that point - hadn't a plumber damaged the drainage or something but it was pointed out at the time that Northampton had to deal with it as well - we're having pitch problems again as the gentlemen's disagreement shows elsewhere. We...

Re: Playoffs?
Why not ? I've been happy to eat my doubtful words over AA and this is an unpredictable league. All we have to do is sneak in on the last position then all bets are off. It would be great to experience a noble short-fall in the play-offs or even go up and worry about it when we get there. Whatever h...

Re: What is your Darlington best 11?
Some great line ups so far but I'd nominate Gary McDonald for at least a place on the bench with the last two teams. Mention of our days in division two a hundred years ago made me consult some of the Echo archives and marvel at the mentions of our star man David Brown who 'fizzed like a rocket and ...

Re: Darlington V Chester
I have just decided to enjoy every game from now for the rest of the season, not expecting much. Not because I dont think the players are good enough, (to be honest I do think they are), but I think confidence is so low, (even Lambert looked frustrated in the last game). So just going to enjoy the ...

Re: Martin Gray
What we have in Armstrong is someone who is willing to work within the restrictions created by our circumstances - a fan-funded club without its own ground. You can argue all day long about whether he's getting good enough results given the circumstances he works within. What we had in Gray, and wo...

Re: Guiesley Away
This bickering between A.A’s supporters and detractors may become irrelevant because another few bad results may see him walk away. Which would not be a good thing. Let’s remember, he is doing the job that Martin Gray felt was beneath him. So you know that Martin Gray thought that managing Darlingt...

Re: Darlo v Kettering
Would be good to hear the list of suitable available candidates should a change be made. Presumably they would need to be people who don't have major issues with the structure and financial set-up of the fan-owned club and who have demonstrated proven ability to successfully run a part-time club on...

Re: Fans Forum
As we've strayed into connections between the club and Westminster are there any connections between Martin and Sue Gray ? If so the report could be on the blunt side, also quite costly. If you put politics aside Nadine Dorres might be worth knowing as she's built up at least one successful business...

Re: Tonight’s games
We should not play more often. We haven't conceded this evening and we move up one place to 12th above Alfreton on goals scored. Also see Kettering played 45 minutes with an outfield player in goal after their keeper was injured without another on the bench. :) Wonderful - this is the true Quakers ...

Re: Telford V Darlington
Remember in our promotion season 84-85 losing 5-2 at lowly Chester. I think we were 3-0 down at one point so at least there was some reaction, still, remembering that season takes us back to Telford in the cup so maybe there's something in the water down there. Having moaned about AA this season I ...

Re: Telford V Darlington
I think it's fair enough for people to be engaged or 'inconsistent' in their reactions when they do so much to support the club. Keeping Quakers going asks a lot so there will be some strong views. Incidentally, I was intrigued by the notion of a team settling 'organically' at its natural level - I ...

Why do players let managers down ? It's up to managers to get them to play, I know that's a bit harsh but how did Telford's manager get his players to deliver ?

Re: Telford V Darlington
  Time for a Sopranos sit down in May and some big decisions - I know the received view for this season is 'transitional' but that's just a kind way of saying fair enough one week/very poor the next so we somehow end up in the middle of the table. I'd have hoped for a 1-0 away agai...

I think Morgan's achiev ment is so noteworthy because it was just over 40 years on from the legendary Quakers 'push and run' team of the mid-nineteen twenties. Our manager then was Jack English who is technically our best ever having got us to a fifhteenth finish in division 2. He came back briefly ...

Re: Kidderminster Game
I think they'll be on their way up right now hoping the game goes ahead - they worked wonders in the cup but I predict a tight game and a possibility of three points for Darlo at 2-1. If not a score draw. I'd like to see Wheater back, having a big timer at the club would encourage the younger player...

Re: Darlington V Spennymoor
The references to Alan Walsh moving to Bristol City made me hope we can get a better deal with Charman. I think we asked for £40,000 for Alan which seemed very reasonable at the time for the best player in the 4 division but Terry Cooper took us to a tribunal and he eventually went for £18,000 which...

Why did the keeper earn his corn ?
Taylors display on Saturday - and earlier games - made me remember Billy Elliot saying 'the keeper earned his corn' after a good game from the goalkeeper. Can anyone say what this means ? He also said of a player waiting for some surgery that he was 'ready for the knife' which is more straightforwar...
