He is in the last year of his contract, so if he wasn't going to be playing week in week out this season he could have left on a free anyway. So I think its just a case of cashing in while they can.
They'd get something at tribunal due to his age I think, although probably a nominal sum.

Re: Latest friendly

From the highlights, and that's all they are, I'd be more concerned by our wasteful finishing than the goalkeepers performance. We could've had a bagful against Middlesbrough. But then it's pre-season and the players will all be badly lacking in sharpness after such an usually long break, so I'm not...

Re: Squad Numbers

Boro squad numbers are out, no number for Tyrone O'Neil however keeper Sol Byrnn has been allocated one. I wonder if O'Neil will be going out on loan again and will Armstrong be tempted? Doubt it given the reinforcements we have in attack now. I can't see where there'd be space for him unless we ge...

Trying to work out who the new trialist GK and other outfield trialists are. Anyone got any clues who they are.. Seen on Twitter that they are apparently: GK - Jonathan Saltmer, released from Barrow and the outfield player is supposedly Elton Ngwatala (but he left Chester to return to France). Sure...

Re: Bury FC fan - in need of some advice

If I cast my mind back - right at the start there were a number of people who weren't happy, and chipped away a bit with a dissenting attitude, but my overwhelming memory about this time is the fact that the vast majority of fans were very much onside. Personally I wasn't sure, and it took me a whi...

Re: Bury FC fan - in need of some advice

Darlington FC didn't go bust - we're not a phoenix club. The fans raised money paid the club's major creditors rather than allowing the club to fold. These debts were paid back over our first couple of seasons in the non-league pyramid. That meant the club remained. The golden share issue affected o...

Good to add another experienced head to the squad. I wonder whether he'll be first choice at right back or someone who can fill in as and when while providing some influence behind the scenes.

I suppose the alternative might be we end up with Holness returning? I've not seen that he's signed anywhere else yet.

I'd be perfectly happy if that were the case.

Need more emails sent to him then , if he got 60 from Newcastle fans in the town, we should be able to outstrip that. Do you think there's more Darlington fans in the constituency than Newcastle? I wouldn't be so sure. Not that we shouldn't be able to generate more than 60 people writing to him giv...

Went for Campbell Vs Farsley for the goal. Difficult angle and not a lot of space. Hatfield were well hit but he had about a month to line up his shot in both cases.

Re: Maguire & Langstaff Released

Put it this way - get Green and a good goalkeeper in and we have to be considering a run for promotion. That's a seriously good squad with strength in depth and quality in pretty much every area. So I guess you are dangling the carrot of being part of a team that has a chance of going up and maybe c...

https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/18632784.york-citys-kieran-green-torn-two-three-options/ If he's the central midfielder we're after then that's probably confirmation that Holness won't be returning. Hatfield, Wheatley, Green and Reid with Atkinson and Hedley both experienced in midfield as well wo...

Re: Attacking options

AA had no issues in Atkinson leaving to go and play in Iceland when he was at Blyth. The difference is, I guess, that Atkinson had a solid offer and Omar is taking his chance. Harsh to say 'he's not that fussed about being at Darlington'. Omar wants to try for full-time football and obviously we ca...

Re: Maguire & Langstaff Released

Quite a selection of forwards if we get Maguire, with Campbell and the lad from Newcastle already competing, and Donawa, Holmes, Rivers and Reid filling the positions behind and either side. Certainly gives the manager plenty of styles and systems to choose from. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

The Hunt signing looks good to me. We've not really had that experienced organiser at the back since White left.

He was playing regularly for Crewe last season so suggests he's still got the fitness and mobility to get around the pitch.

Re: Potential new signings

The more you think about it the more sense it makes. Alun first and foremost liked his defenders to be good with the ball at their feet. A typical clogger at CB wouldn’t give that option but an experienced RB who had recently converted to CB and done really well who has a good pass on him starts to...

The club ultimately is the fans. They are the constant, and although only footifan still remains from 1883, the baton passes from generation to generation. If we, as supporters, feel the club is the same entity, then it is. That's disregarding the fact that legally, financially, and in the eyes of t...

Is there anything the Arena fanboys won't seize upon as a reason to take us back to that dreadful old dive? The capacity of Blackwell is 3,300... so even in such a situation where that 25 percent rule was enforced that's 825, not 750... the idea that walking away from Blackwell to play in the Arena...

Don’t know the bloke personally but I always had the impression Tait was a bit of a tosser. Would not want him back if he came back in thinking he was a big time Charlie. Certainly would not bring him in and make him captain above the likes of Hatfield and Liddle. The last thing we need is another ...

Liddle and Hatfield probably the most obvious choices. As said by others, you need leaders throughout the team but the captain needs to be someone that all will unanimously respect, and someone who can communicate diplomatically with officials and the opposition, not just with their own mates. Whichever one we go for I hope it's with white shorts rather than matching shorts. Much smarter look.
