Re: Small clubs in the north west

The thing is, regardless of whether we stay fan owned or have a wealthy owner, we will eventually find our level. Fan owned we are probably close to our level. With some luck we can probably rise another level and at an absolute push at some stage return to League 2 although probably only for a very...

You're right, Spen - no bother at all that TPOCD are currently proudly appearing in the relegation zone. Vibey.

Re: Darlington V Southport

Do we know how long Liddle is likely to be out for? To be fair I thought we looked just as good when we brought Heaton on and went 3-5-2 with Donawa and Watson as wing backs. If we revert back to 4-4-2 (sorry, 4-2-3-1 for the connoisseurs) and Atkinson is fit, then he's the obvious choice for right...

Re: Darlington V Southport

I would think Atkinson or Holliday can come in at right back, Watson stays left back and then Laing/Heaton/Galbraith play for the central defensive roles. We're still well covered in midfield with Hatfield, Bascombe, Holness and Wheatley so don't need to put Atkinson back in there even if he'd be f...

Re: Darlington V Southport

Really!? If anything then, he is remarkably two footed. He used his right foot repeatedly, to a point where he had convinced me he was right footed. I know Liddle was out of position, but he was excellent. I know Watson is a utility man, but thought he was right footed. Shows what I know eh. Both w...

Re: Blyth

Going down this year, me thinks. Looking at social media, the fans are turning on Clark already. Squad is completely unprepared to play at this level. Who would have thought bringing in a manager with no knowledge of this level of the game could be a bad idea... It wasn't such a bad idea to bring M...

Re: Curzon Ashton v Darlo

Two 3-1 Away defeats but I still don’t feel too downhearted. Obviously a long way to go in the season but we played good football at times it’s just that final ball that’s lacking. There’s definitely goals in this team, losing trotman was a massive blow this week and once we get Heaton back to full...

Re: Darlington V Kettering

I watched the highlights this morning and was very impressed. Rivers looks a real handful - reminds me a little of Wainwright at his peak, the way he's weaving past defenders. Bascombe looked good in midfield and was to me more impressive alongside Hatfield that Holness has appeared from highlights ...

Re: Trotman out for the season

We use the squad that has been assembled. There's options within the squad (Watson, Atkinson and Holliday) who can come in. If it's not working out then there's the loan market. All of the above before we think about raising extra funds. Who knows - a couple of cup wins may give us some extra budget...

Re: Gateshead game...

You only have to cast your mind back a few years to Aaron Brown, who was castigated after his first couple of games for us yet went on to be a fine player for us and a trophy winner at Wembley. Adam Bartlett more recently who many fans criticised after his first couple of games. Armstrong has seen m...

Re: Saturday

If we're losing a couple of players from the 'first choice' team I don't think its wise to also change formations. Keep the same shape and just change personnel as needed. Watson in for Trotman (with possibly Liddle on the right), and Donawa in for Holmes, or drop Campbell into a wide position and O...

Re: Trotman out for the season

Arguably the worst player for this to happen to - he's probably our most sellable asset with a year left on his contract (I think). I think there was a reasonable chance with a good run of form this season we'd see him move on for a fee. Not only is this a huge blow for a promising young player, it'...

Re: Gateshead game...

Donawa will probably always look dangerous as a second half sub against tired defences.

It will be interesting to see if he can make the same impact from the start against fresher legs and where he needs to manage his own energy a little better.

This was never an issue with Gabbiadini and Duffield up front.

Re: Farsley V Darlington Match Thread

Having watched the highlights this morning: Laing's 'clearance for the first is shocking - he had all the time in the world and although there's a chance the pitch had an impact on how he struck the ball, from the camera angle it's unclear who he's trying to reach with that ball. He's looking to the...

I don't wish him any ill will either, but he'll get a lot further in life and probably come across as a lot less bitter if he accepts his own role in how his career is panning out, rather than just blaming it all on other people. That interview paints him as very arrogant and lacking in self-awarene...

Re: New Striker

I don't see how we have space for another striker at the moment. We will be playing with one up front, and have two central strikers on the books at the moment, so one to start, one on the bench. We have 3 players in behind the striker and probably 5 players to fill those 3 positions, so again proba...

Unfortunately the bus with the usual suspects is apparently setting off at 8.30 and heading into the centre of Leeds where they will no doubt stay until just before kick off then turn up totally inebriated. This combined with a warm day and no segregation is a recipe for disaster, as we have seen i...

Wow. He really has a high opinion of himself.

Basically he's done everything right and played well every time he's been given the chance, but for some reason he never gets picked anywhere he goes.

But it's them, not him.

I think it's fairly clear that the team will be as above, with possibly one of Holness/Bascombe filling in for Atkinson if he's not fit. I imagine Donawa will be used as an impact sub a lot this season. Armstrong's comments in various interviews suggest Holness and Bascombe are currently viewed as s...

Donawa, Heaton, Bell and Omar all signed up, we’re just awaiting international and FA clearance. Well done Alun! Excellent pre season recruitment that has left us with a solid 20 man squad on a lower budget than TW’s! And Glover gone left by mutual consent. Shame that TW and AW could not dev...

Campbell’s situation is very similar to that of Mark Beck’s when we signed him. Turned out that Beck was actually an outst...

Not a bad bit of business, selling him for £75k and getting him back a year later for nothing.

If he can pick up where he left off he may well make us another £75k down the road.
