Re: Workington relegated

I remember the game at Feethams very well as I had to catch the 268 from Stockton to Darlington in thick snow and the bus was running well late. Former Quaker Colin Blant was playing for Workington that night - it was a good match played on a farcical surface and a 3-2 victory for Darlo, which was t...

Re: Darlington v Ramsbottom match thread

Thanks to the lads who did the internet commentary tonight - more entertaining than the actual match. Once again a Darlington team loses in front of a big crowd. Another season of this level of football is bad news. I was genuinely looking forward to seeing Darlo playing at Whitby Town as its only 2...

Re: Match Thread!

The point being made is that Thompson is irreplaceable at this level. I thought the same about Dave McLean even though he came in for lots of stick his work rate was phenomenal. When David Currie was sold his replacement Paul Clayton was signed from Norwich but soon fell by the wayside and got homes...

Re: Mission Impossible Fanzine

So many great anecdotes from my time working on the fanzine and combining it with a full time job and then a degree at University. I was in Pizza Hut one afternoon and who should walk in but David Hodgson, his wife and kids. I was busy reading something when Hodgy came over and introduced himself an...

Re: RARE DARLINGTON PHOTOGRAPHS

'The middle class Marske mafia?' - I've been here nearly 10 years and not heard that phrase before. You must know something I don't? If nobody is interested then they will be put for sale on ebay and probably lost to the area. The last time I gave anything of value to the club the rare programmes I ...

RARE DARLINGTON PHOTOGRAPHS

I have just been going through some boxes of magazines and found a box with over 90 black & white photographs (postcard size) mainly from matches at Feethams mainly covering the Cyril Knowles to Brian Little eras. There seems to be a few of Garry McDonald and Carl Airey, including the last minute wi...

Re: Who was our best goalkeeer?

Good thread - Alan Ogley was the first regular Darlo goalkeeper I remember in 1975/76. Ogley, Ogley Ogley, Oi, Oi, Oi. Been some good ones and bad ones and very rarely anything in between. Martin Burleigh certainly liked his beer. Barber, Pollitt, Preece & Prudhoe were all good lads and overall - co...

Re: Darlington Football Programmes For Sale 1975 -2001

I have received two enquiries - one is local; the other a dealer from Luton, Bedfordshire, though I understand from a mate he makes you an offer and then often doesn't get back in touch! I'm still open to offers - I checked yesterday and there are two lots of Conference League homes and a complete s...

Re: Marske

Match is definitely ON - the pitch is heavy. The car park at the ground is already full. There are only 249 programmes left as I have just bought one for £1. The sun is shining brightly but it is quite nippy at present. There is a slight breeze. One of the lads who helps out at Marske is also a Darl...

Re: Marske Away Travel Info

Your observations on Marske are hilarious. I've been here nine years and the quality of life is fantastic, the best move I ever made. Everyone who lives here calls the centre 'the village' , be careful though you could end up like Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner! Joking aside, I've lived all over t...

I live literally five minutes walk from the ground so will walk the dogs down there and get back to you. There is NO SNOW here. It was wild overnight with sleet and a gailforce wind but the snow has fallen and laid further on in Skelton Green (three miles away) and on higher ground. There might be a...

Darlington Football Programmes For Sale 1975 -2001

I HAVE around a thousand Darlington FC home programmes for sale primarily between the years of 1975 - 2001 though there are quite a few outside those seasons and quite a few away programmes too. There are some complete seasons and most are in excellent condition. Unfortunately with now residing in t...

It was Stuart Douglas not John who played three times for Darlington on non-contract terms under Cyril Knowles in 1985/6. Re: Just back from match

Ingelby - the area the ground is located in is a magnet for a lot of ASB that takes place in Guisborough. The football fans weren't the problem. Its what was going on outside the ground whilst you were watching the match with 1326 others that was of concern.

Re: Season over unless we get 2 or 3 more quality players in

I'm surprised given the combative qualities of the management team (Gray, Gregan) as players the one thing absent in the 35 minutes I saw was a complete lack of character. We walked in after 10 minutes to hear that Guisborough were already a goal up. They could have been four goals up at half time f...

Re: Just back from match

Guisborough don't normally attract more than 100 people to their home games. The police were only expecting 60 away fans - seriously.

It wasn't that Darlington got beaten more how they were beaten - and I only saw 35 minutes of the match!

Re: Guisborough Town v Darlington Match Thread

Only got to see the last 35 mins of the first half tonight. Guisborough could have been four nil up at half time. I thought Darlington were very poor on what I saw and looked vulnerable and not prepared to battle (this is the first time I have seen them). You would never have thought Darlo were top ...

Should be fun on Wednesday as the car parking at Guisborough is also used for the swimming baths. There's an area near the tennis courts where you can get around 20 vehicles - after that its street parking down Howlbeck Road and the lovely Woodhouse Road Estate. The irony for me is I used to edit th...

Marske and Guisborough

As a Darlo fan living a 5-minute walk from Marske's Mountpleasant ground in the recent past the club have had local their local derby at Christmas with Guisborough and have attracted not far off a thousand people, so I don't think a few hundred coming from Darlington will bother them. For a club tha...

Re: (Echo) Three-year target for return to Football League

Best thing to do is for 1883 to issue a press release then we can see what they actually said. I've always been a realist and I know Denis is a fan - some financial stability wouldn't go amiss amongst the plans to return the club to Darlington. I think a five year plan to reach the Conference is mor...

You can't have your cake and eat it, lads! One minute people are complaining Radio Tees don't give enough coverage to the Quakers; next its overkill. The problem in my humble opinion is that the club needed the media to galvanise the fund raising and to get people to attend the home games against Fl...
