Re: Asante
Should go in for Cedric Main or Lenell John-Lewis on loan from York - can’t see either getting a start now that Billy Chadwick has signed from Gateshead and now that Finlay Barnes is appearing on the bench

Re: Good luck Steve Watson
The job Watson has on his hands isn’t unlike the one he inherited at York in 2019 where he took on a hugely underperforming side. He did quite quickly instil some better discipline on the training ground and get shot of the players he didn’t rate - he released Moke so his days may be numbered. Woul...

Re: Good luck Steve Watson
Regarding the assistant that he wants to bring in - Cummins is the most likely person given that he was assistant under Watson at Gateshead and York, but, Watson has also worked twice with John Askey as well at Macclesfield and York. He brought Askey in as his assistant at York after Cummins left. Y...

Re: Alun has been sacked
I’m really surprised that everyone is dismissing Steve Watson as a ‘failure’ - at Gateshead and York he didn’t do that bad. He was on course to get promoted with York until Covid kicked in - his win ratio there was 51% - best of any York manager.

Re: Season 23/24
Barnes signed a three year contract with York in June so unlikely he will be let go without there being a decent fee involved. He is seen as one for the future and so I think still features in plans for York

Re: Best Darlo Loan XI - Thread
I’m frankly appalled that in the goalkeeping position no one has voted for James Speare! Looking back on that, Hodgy must have been insane to hand him a football league loan debut in a critical derby match against Pools

Would be a huge asset if he can stay fit. He has looked good in the games he played for York but was only fit for probably 4 months of the season

York are actively looking for an attacking midfielder/striker and their new management team are likely to be backed by the chairman given that they are ‘his men’. Lambert needs tying down on a 2 yr deal

Re: Danny Mills
I watched Danny Mills’ appearance on the ‘Undr The Cosh’ podcast recently. Came across as an absolute tosspiece on that as well - did have an interesting anecdote about Neil Heaney though and the time that he punched Mauricio Tarricco down a flight of stairs when Charlton played Ipswich in 1998. Can...

I predict the York Trust will sell at least 50% of the club to a new backer. There’s no way the Trust will be able to manage the club on its own.

Re: Darlo’s worst XI
Using my above criteria, Flapper Newell was one of the worst keepers i saw that earned a contract but then he was partial to a few saves too. I always thought Newell was pretty decent considering he was in goal for our first Wembley trip! Bloody hell - old Flapper Newall. Terrible on crosses but di...

Re: Darlo’s worst XI
Spyman - Garry Williamson, that's him. He changed his name for some reason then played on. He was okay really, possibly a bit young and raw for what was expected or hoped of him via G.R's "new and improved Darlo" G.R's words not mine. Thrown in at the deep end. if you like. FROM WIKI. "Barnes was b...

Re: Darlo’s worst XI
A few from the 90’s/00’s spring to mind: James Speare - loan keeper who couldn’t catch a cold in a doctors waiting room. Hodgy threw him in against Hartlepool in the 96/97 home derby Steve MacMahon - a hugely tall striker who couldn’t head the ball. Did score one against Orient in 95/96 but I rememb...

Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
1. Gabbiadini (home to Exeter 1998-99 season. Completed his hat trick by beating three men and then lashing one into the top corner from 30 yards) 2. Gabbiadini (home to Leyton Orient 1999-00 season. Hit one on the outside of his boot and chipped the keeper on an angle) 3. Martin Smith (away to ….??...

Heaney has signed for South Shields
Michael Woods also released by York. If fit he is a great player in centre mid, a bit of a Gary Bannister type player

Re: The ‘what if’ season
You can ask “what if” questions about any season. *What if this player hadn’t been injured or suspended? *What if the season hadn’t been ended early in 19/20? Would we have made the top seven? *What if we had the correct number of seats in 2017 to get into the play-offs? *What if Martin Gray hadn’t...

Imagine if this happened now
The way the away fans at Feethams caused the advertising hoardings to collapse would provoke a huge investigation nowadays

I started supporting Darlo in about August 95 - when Hodgy & Platt took over. I think Kirkham was part of that squad but never featured - what happened there?

Re: The Hodgy team of 99/00 - if they had been promoted
It’s always extraordinary to think that team didn’t get promotion. Even with the poor run-in, if we’d only drawn with Northampton at home in April rather than lose (1-0 courtesy of a former Hanger, IIRC) we’d have been promoted. It would have all collapsed the following season, mind. I remember goi...

The Hodgy team of 99/00 - if they had been promoted
I’ve often wondered ‘what might have been’ if we had beaten Peterborough that night at Wembley - would that team have gone on to have a good season in Division 2, or would Reynolds still have forced most of them to leave. One thing I have noticed, looking at the careers of most of that team is that ...
