Re: Punishment for the Boston game

They could very easily and on good, factual, solid ground have found that there was just cause in this particular case when you consider the very many extraordinary circumstances facing clubs. Lo originally said he fully expected the charges to be cancelled and now they have been enforced seems to b...

Re: Punishment for the Boston game

It looks deliberately obtuse, provocative and plain ludicrous to rule that there wasn't just cause in the middle of a global pandemic with a huge number of cases locally, no organised testing in place, no income for clubs and the failure to meet promises of continued grant funding as well as complet...

Re: Punishment for the Boston game

On another level I can really appreciate the tremendous comedic value in the NL's stance. It's a brilliant way to shove yet another stick into the hornets' nest.

Re: Terry Melling

I am guessing but I think Terry Melling and Lance Robson must have played in the same team at some point as Lance came back for a second spell in the late sixties. That must have been a daunting experience for defenders. Neither were massive physical specimens but both were really hard. I bet a goo...

Re: Terry Melling

The Bradford City fans voted it one of the greatest City matches and their version was "Darlington took the lead, the game was delayed for 10 minutes as a wall collapsed in the away end, and then Bobby Ham, Bruce Bannister and an own goal gave City the priceless victory – a first promotion for 40 ye...

Terry Melling

Just reading on Mike Amos' blog about striker who played for us way back and has just died. Sounds like a real character who was as tough as they come. Apparently not many dared mess with the lad from Haverton Hill but he also scored a few for various clubs.

Re: South Shields

It's just as well for Fylde that Haythornthwaite's financial prop isn't from the Raj Singh version of investing in football which leads to a day of reckoning when the loans are totted up ready for the meltdown. Does chucking vast sums at a non-league club in the middle of nowhere with very few fans ...

Re: When is null & void.......

I can see why the Dorking gadgie is furious. He's spent a fortune on his squad and stuffed it with ex-league club players in an all-out bid for promotion this year only to have it snatched away in extraordinary circumstances. I was fairly ambivalent about this mini-league idea (as it didn't harm our...

Re: Solihull management depart

I think their owners expected better after financing a full-time, professional squad of 28 players, including the likes of Adam Rooney. Incidentally Justin Donawa doesn't seem to feature a great deal. I expected him to thrive in the league above us.

Re: When is null & void.......

They may not have to increase the size of the NL so much if Dover are expelled for refusing to play. The farce continues with Kings Lynn already placing six players on furlough with another six likely to follow next week cos they're skint. At the same time they've brought in a loanee to help cover f...

Stand by for legal action instigated by Dorking and friends.
The mouthy geezer from Dorking said: "At this stage we are in ongoing dialogue with our legal team and are taking high level legal advice to ascertain the validity of the resolution."

Re: York City

In reality Boro's Riverside Stadium cost a lot more than £16.5m as on top of that figure millions of pounds worth of public money also went towards it. Teesside Development Corporation (financed by the taxpayer) gave the club the land to build the stadium on and then secured lots of Government cash ...

Re: DFC Voted for League to be Null & Void

Some clubs have called on the NL to void the season if there are no grants and have refused to play, some want it voided but haven't refused to play, some want to take loans and some want to play on regardless backed by benefactors' deep pockets. Clubs are just weighing up what they see as the best ...

Re: DFC Voted for League to be Null & Void

I can appreciate a reluctance to go down a route which may lead to expulsion and/or fines for our club especially when a resolution may be very close. It may not come to that of course but it may also be a gamble. It's not a situation of our making and we are trying to balance a lot of factors and f...

Re: Kidderminster Harriers 13th Feb

Looks like we are being pushed into playing under duress, with threats of fines and expulsion, until the result of the vote is known. What a terrible position to be forced into while trying to protect our club. It's an absolute scandal and shameful on the part of the NL board.

Re: Wealdstone match thread

We've struggled sometimes this season when teams have packed their defences and done their homework and concentrated on trying to snuff out players like Sousa, Rivers and Charman. Wealdstone didn't do that and paid the price. We were probably under the radar for them, especially with being in a lowl...

Re: DFC Voted for League to be Null & Void

A much more measured and sensible statement than the confrontational claptrap from Fylde. It also helps to nail the lie about clubs being motivated in their voting purely according to whether they are in the running for promotion or fighting relegation. As an aside, I didn't know Spenny had a "benef...

Re: Kettering Town

You need to read their statement. The main thrust of it is the very real financial threat to their future if the league carries on without income or with crippling loans. You're making too much of a one-off fitness match requested by Oxford. It didn't threaten Kettering's future.

They probably felt playing one practice match wouldn't threaten their survival in the way that playing the rest of the season without income or with crippling loans would.
