Re: Once the dust settles...

⬆️ I’m sorry, it could be me, but I can’t get my head round that. I would say the question is, next season - are we going to behave like a normal football club ie properly go for a playoff place, or not? Bearing in mind that if Steve stays we should be able to realistically perform to about the requ...

Re: Once the dust settles...

What an achievement it would be to reach the National League! To get back there as a fan owned club! To get back to where we were before the financial meltdown which was caused by others. Yes it would be very hard to consolidate, and we would look like the church mouse playing in a tatty spruced up ...

Re: Well how did we do that?

At the little awards give out post match on Saturday I was keeping an eye on Main because I was expecting him to win something - when he didn't he genuinely didn't seem bothered. I'm not comparing him or matching him up against anyone else, but as a stand alone point I think he's a gem of a player, ...

Re: Well how did we do that?

Not me. Main is a better player in nearly every way IMO. His work rate, his thinking, the way he is determined to bundle his way through a defensive block, his team work ethic.

Perhaps Hazel was better a placing a shot? But I can't remember.

Re: Once the dust settles...

Well, yeah, this is what I was alluding to really. It's not a good sporting mentality go into anything half throttle, but the situation is a bit more nuanced than that. The dumbing down of expectations etc last year was a massive mistake but moving on from that, if Steve stays then it's a good sign,...

Re: Once the dust settles...

That's the problem, and it's tricky. I suppose if we ever got promoted, the motivation would be just to stay out of the bottom four, which would obviously be an achievement in itself, hard but not impossible. IF Seatgate hadn't occurred, and IF we had got promoted that season, then the same scenario...

Re: Once the dust settles...

There are some brilliant posts above. ⬆️ In a nutshell I feel our problems began when we were top of the league and our decision makers (and I'm choosing my words carefully here) "hinted" that we weren't ready for promotion. This then turned into the limiting of expectations mantra that crippled us ...

Re: Looks like they're staying...

Does Watson still work for NUFC? If so and he’s happy with his work/life balance then I think he’ll stay - the problem is that he’s obviously capable of managing at a higher level.

Re: Darlington v Farsley 13/04/24

I was hoping Main might have picked up an award yesterday post match, but no. He has been superb since he joined and in some ways reminds me of Gabbiadini - the way he just pushes his way through, not taking no for an answer.

Re: The Bottom Ten, Saturday Apr 13th 2024, Staying Up Edition

It's actually P 21 W 12 L 9. You're doing him over there like. What makes it all the more unbelievable is his first 7 matches was W 2 L 5, and one or two numpties were questioning what had actually improved (the football was already miles better despite the results) Since then we've won 10 of our l...

Re: The Bottom Ten, Saturday Apr 13th 2024, Staying Up Edition

I’ve been looking through Steve’s results this year and there are quite a number of losses, and the stats show we played 19, lost 9, won 10, no draws since he’s been here at all! It’s the 3 points each win that has kept us up so that’s great - I wonder if it’s been a case of throwing caution to the ...

Re: When Watson and Mitchell took over…

Our form since Steve took over just proves the point that a football team must have something to play for. When Armstrong lost key players and they weren’t replaced, the other players took their foot off the gas, promotion it seemed wasn’t on the menu. Then of course we had all that mantra coming fr...

Re: Darlington v Farsley 13/04/24

I just hope that Tommy Taylor is named as a sub as knowing our luck Matty Young will get injured in the first 5 mins and witout a keeper on the bench... I have had exactly the same thought. It might seem over cautious to some, but I think for such an important match it would be reassuring to have a...

Re: Darlington v Farsley 13/04/24

At this level I worry about referees and players doing daft things. These end of season big games are nerve shredding because there are too many variables. Last season near the end (maybe Curzon) there was a clear penalty for a handball that everyone saw except the ref, and this cost us big time. To...

Re: Darlington v Farsley 13/04/24

I'd love to think that tomorrow's game is going to be a plain sailing win, but as other long in the tooth supporters have noted, Darlo rarely do things by the easiest route. I know it is the job of our publicity machine to talk up this game to get more people through the door and on current informa...

That was the second to last game of the season.

That Darlo side of Hodgie's that failed V Peterborough, they were so entertaining. Liddle, Heaney, Gabbiadini, Collett, Heckingbottom, Michael Oliver and others, what a side that was. I also like Hodgy and he definitely made Quakers one of the best teams to watch at that level I always thought this was a myth of his own creation tbh. Re: David Hodgson Interview

To call this an interview is a stretch, it’s more Hodgie stringing together a series of stories that illustrate that the world of football is full of dubious characters and dubious goings on, including (it seems) himself.

I like Hodgie, he did well for us, and this is quite interesting though.

Re: The Bottom Ten, Saturday Apr 06th 2024

I dunno about that H1987. Seeing as the National league is virtually a proper league, I view National North and South in a way as the top two 'non league' leagues. If a club can't handle a bit of travel and 23 other teams then possibly they are batting too high? Plus, on a selfish note - I want to s...
