Re: It is no wonder this site is

I agree with Gramps on this. The fruity free speech you sometimes read seems inevitable given how strongly people feel about the club and gentleman's disagreements should be part of a lively site. I like the threads because you also get plenty of abrasive wit and because of the seasoned commentary f...

Re: Terry Melling

The Everton game had it's fair share of potential lalldy; John Peverill was up against Johnny Morrissey on the left, I think the barriers must have been at risk from the collective crunch whenever those two went for a tackle, legend has it that Morrissey was capable of intimidating Leeds United all ...

Pool(s) If You Think It's Over

It's just begun - for our friends and neighbours across the way. Instead of filling threads with stale stuff from our back pages, or semantical handbags, let's send good vibrations to Hartlepool, one of the regions few success stories. Rivals certainly but not 'hated rivals' - we've more in common a...

Re: Notts County away

As Notts are my second - by a long way- team I'd say Quakers would have had their chances. They can score notable goals but their back line isn't great. This was my fantasy final and it could have been a good one. :x :(

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final

 I understand why we're thinking about 'saleable' assets but doesn't that undercut any progress we might make? If those names mentioned moved on what are we left with? As far as I can see the adjustments required in this Quaker side are at the back and in midfield. It must be very difficult f...

Those penalties

As the noteworthy penalty in our last match stimulated such interest, what about a penalties from the past thread? There have been some memorable ones; a couple I'd bring up are Frank Gray's against Rochdale in May 1991 and an outrageous dive from Mark Hine at Boston in 1989 - 'the guy might have cl...

Good luck to him - it's been gratifying to see a Darlo boy, literally with Curtis, go on and have a decent career. I've always felt Boro made a mistake letting him go. Are we hoping he might come back home at some point?

To quote Elton John “ It’s a sad sad situation and it’s getting more and more absurd “ Sums it up for me. ''And I think it's gonna be a long long time'' Till we get all these games played if there's a re-start of this season. What a carry on - I think we should scrap the season, everbody should fro...

I’m starting to not be. Seasons going nowhere. No way we can claw back up the table with the pile up we have. Constant stop start nonsense of a year.
Agree with that.Dear Boris, bin football now.
Me too - Beer Doris bin it now. I'm sure Steve Bruce would be happy.

Re: Spennymoor away

Can’t help thinking that if you could put the best of Spennymoor and the best of Darlington together you would have a really strong club that could be going places. Basically the best of Spennymoor is Uncle Brad and his cash and ambition. The best of Darlington is the passion and commitment of the ...

Have I just woken from winter hibernation on April 1st ? Wonderful if we could wake up on April 1 and be able to start looking forward. Shorter games ?

 Just a thought but it might not be as daft as it sounds. Given the fixture congestion, which could easily worsen, a game of 80 minutes could address the problems of fatigue and consequent injury and maybe even some incentive for shot-shy teams to through caution to the winds. Basically the am...

Re: Forgotten New year day fixtures

New Years Day 1983, Bootham Crescent; York City 5 Quakers 2. A great game and a very misleading score line. York were top at the time and soon scored - more home goals were expected but Tony McFadden equalised directly from the kick-off with a solo run and for a while we made a game of it with Alan ...

Re: Blyth game

 :| Might be another tricky one - Blyth gave themselves a boost coming back against Gateshead and that home hoodoo is still hovering. Would be happy with a scruffy 1-0. My only concern is how best to accommodate O'Neil - he's still the player he was last season. Nice to see Thompson again.

Re: Jason Ainsley

I think Gray would be a good appointment for Spennymoor and if he has retired they could try to persuade him. For all his charmless ways he knew how to get success at this level - he nearly got us up in our first season in this league - and having done penance he deserves another chance.

Lance left a big impression on Peter Shilton too - League Cup 1968 - so just maybe it was playing on his mind when he went up with Marradona for that ball.

Re: Ex Darlo players -unsporting behaviour?

The Alan White incident put me right off him even thoughh he was a good defender. Dave Speedie.was a very good player but he was a dirty one. I also have it on good authority that he was a wind up merchant can't think of anything specific but he must have pushed his luck with Gary Bennett when he li...

Why no Rivers in either eleven? I thought he was our best player on Saturday and was involved in our best moves goalward. This might be our most important game so far this season, if we stink the place out again at home we'll be singing if only this Christmas. :wtf:

Re: Away to Bristol rovers

Well, I thought Rivers was excellent, Campbell too but it seems to me we gave the game away with some very poor stuff at the back. They weren't that good but we were way above our usual territory and it showed cruelly in the little things; like holding the ball and creating chances. It was good to s...

We will face the same thing every home game and we need a Plan B. Is it me or does our pitch seem narrow on Quaker TV. Possibly just the camera angle but at Guiseley and Alfreton we seemed to have loads of space on the flanks going forward but at home everything looks much narrower. Maybe we just pl...

I saw that Mr E and I reached similar conclusions recently about our form away from home and the possible impact of no supporters. They beat Sunderland and will be looking to beat us after our best ever cup result - the Trophy Win in 2011 against Mansfield, at Wembley.
