Re: Chester Away All ticket
I don't know if it's plain bad luck that every time we sign someone on a two year deal they're crocks, or if there's a correlation between the type of player - ie we think we're getting a bargain bringing in someone who is (or was) a class above this level but in reality there's a reason why they'r...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
Can you imagine the uproar if Ainge had banged in 20 by Xmas and was then whisked away by Fylde or similar for an 18 month or two-year deal and we got next to nowt. I was excited when we signed Simon Ainge, until the first game of the season where it was apparent he was immobile. Fans all got excit...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
Of course sometimes these extended deals have also worked in our favour as in the case of Josh Heaton, who had had injury problems but we eventually received a big fee for, Charman, also with injury issues, Hatfield (we wouldn't have got him without a two year deal), Mark Beck (again had had seriou...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
I'd imagine that the players demanded 2 year deals or else they wouldn't sign - ie I'll take the security of a 2 year deal on a lesser wage but if I'm only getting 1 year then I want x amount more. I'm pretty sure we don't hand out 2 year contracts to new signings for the hell of it, and we'd rathe...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
Well yes, there is a fix. The club should only give out 1 year contracts as standard, with two-year contracts only in exceptional circumstances where the player has both a good injury record and a history of sustained performances at this level (i.e. a Mark Beck). I'd imagine that the players deman...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
It’s quite clear that Steve and Terry don’t want him. I’m hoping a club like Radcliffe will take him as Bernard and Jonno love him. I’ve lost count of the players we have signed that are not fit enough. We need to avoid injury prone players, at the very least not offer them long contracts! Sent fro...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
I didn't think he was injured to be honest just thought he was a desperate and ultimately poor signing. Having disappointing signings who end up persistently injured is not a particularly recent phenomenon. We had a brief reprieve from it when we had most players on non-contract terms but otherwise...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
It's not hindsight. That is a cop out for bad decision-making.
Asante has never, across his full career, been able to handle many minutes in a season. He has recently had 3 surgeries and is almost 32. Why would you give him a two-year deal?!

Re: Chester Away All ticket
I think every clubs have a player who is a 'burden' on the wage bill - it's part of the gamble when you contract someone it protects you if they do well - it protects them if they don't. I am not sure there is a way to 'fix' making a mistake other than to give no contract over 1 year ever. There is...

Re: Asante Starts
Maybe time for Steve and Terry to sit down with Asante and have a serious talk about his future. Maybe he just needs telling that he has no realistic future with us and offer him a reasonable financial settlement. Otherwise we could play hardball, make him travel up from Birmingham twice a week for...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
Don't forget we've already seen what he can offer over 7 glorious games under Clowning. You could say that about most of the squad. I'm not suggesting Asante is going to suddenly come good, there's clearly fitness issues that look like they may be unresolvable, but to judge a player based on their ...

Re: York.
Good - I am glad York have stayed up. Reduces the competition for players we will be looking at & it increases the chances of us signing a couple of theirs. Perhaps one or two Watson has worked with before…. By the same logic, I could never get my head around our fans wanting Blyth to stay up. Of co...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
We were the better team first half.
Second half we faded a bit. Chester found more space but they were largely toothless in-front of goal.
Asante really did look poor. Fell over a couple of times, slow & never looked threatening. I really cannot believe we are lumbered with him for another year.

Re: Steve Watson - 2 year contract confirmed
excellent news, announce little Terry soon and happy days, onto BTB and real optimism for next season. I'm not sure we'd be contracting our assistant - could be wrong but usually they just come with the manager at our level. Holloway was contracted. Very good point and actually got the impression R...

Re: Well how did we do that?
That for me has been transformed by new additions, Main in particular. Would SW been able to do the same with Felix & Hazel? I personally don’t believe so. You don't believe that SW would have been able to do anything with Hazel, who scored 20 goals a season every season, and 21 goals in his first ...

Re: Well how did we do that?
The talk about Main being better than Hazel is pointless. We sold Hazel to bring in Asante, and I hate to break it to you all but: Hazel > Asante. This was probably one of our worst pieces of transfer business since becoming fan-owned. Hazel should have been partnering Main upfront. Alas, we will ne...

Re: Once the dust settles...
We ate in to our cash reserves for the 21/22 & 22/23 seasons. I expect 23/24 to be no different given the turbulent nature of the season (sacking AA + DH, then JG & DR). As of the end of the 22/23 season, we still retained healthy reserves. However, this is a trend which cannot continue in future s...

Re: Looks like they're staying...
With the exception of a few, these players were never poor, or any of the other derogatory remarks they were called mid-season. They were badly let down during the season by terrible management & recruitment. To be honest with you, when you were saying this isn't a bad squad of players in mid seaso...
