Droylsden

Resign from the league and cup. Basically suggesting they'd like to return in future but they can't afford to operate this coming season.

Very sad. First of many, I suspect.

Re: Attacking options

It’s a shame for Omar, he seems like a nice lad and I like him as a footballer. I think he is capable of playing full time football but he’s not quite played regularly enough for us to have gotten clubs further up interested. I have to say though, this seems a very odd time to try and gamble in the ...

Re: Attacking options

We have options for sure. We might see 4-3-3 in some games. He could even opt for a 4-4-2 / 4-2-4 of sorts. Donowa, Campbell, Rivers and Holmes can all play as the wide options in that set up. Charman and Maguire are the more conventional frontmen... you'd assume they've also been told they'll play ...

Re: Jordan Burrow & Macauley Langstaff

Didn’t watch the game but I saw a lot of their fans on social media complaining of a lack of fitness and overweight players. Sort of ridiculous considering they’re full time. I’m not sure if the above two are culprits. Either way, I’m glad they’re still in our league. Hopefully the season is delayed...

Re: October

Whenever it does happen - and I don't believe it will happen by October - I'd say that home fans only is a sensible policy - it stops potential infections spreading around the country if an outbreak were tracked to a football game. Advance tickets only as well - and most likely you'd restrict fans m...

Re: Sports village

Should know more about this issue next month. Mowden Park have called an extraordinary general meeting of members on 12th August at the Arena to give an update on the club and its future plans. Must be an anxious time for them. The Tees Valley Mayor has also gone awfully quiet on one of his pet pro...

Re: Sports village

From DJ in a netcafe in 2019: https://darlingtonfc.co.uk/news/tonights-netcafe 'Bar sales – DFC retain 10% of bar sales revenue. Gross sales per game average circa £2k.' Good to know I wasn't too far off with 1,700. 2,000 gross ain't a lot at all once costs are removed. Is it more than they'd be ma...

Re: Sports village

I'd be surprised if there is a huge profit on our matchdays from the bar. Let's say 500 pints sold (possibly a real overestimation) times about 3.20 a pint (they're quite reasonable in there - I usually have Staro which is more but I doubt that's the average on the cheap lager, the ale is about 3.20...

Re: New signing

Hunt is a curious one, I wonder what persuaded him to step down into part-time football... maybe he's doing coaching qualifications or something. Either way, an experienced head at the back is no bad thing.

Luke Charman. From Newcastle U23’s. Sounds as though he has a good record in youth football!

A mystery but the sort of signing we should be after. Good stuff!

Re: C'mon Darlo Face Masks

I believe the club shop are out of stock, as per a message on social media before.

Thankfully I bought some masks before this disorganised late announcement nonsense. It’s going to be a nightmare getting hold of them. I doubt the club had that many to begin with.

Re: Sports village

The flood plain is less problematic than that f'ing pipe... That said though - we don't need major development. We need a modest-sized terrace to be at a conference national level. That should be our short term goal. Trying to run before we can walk is what landed the club at the Arena in the first...

Re: Sports village

One day our best prospect might actually be buying Blackwell - Even just the main stadium itself / clubhouse so we could own and redevelop it to suit a football ground rather than a small rugby club. The problem with public talk of things like this is that word gets around. People read stuff. Peopl...

Re: Sports village

Our relationship with Bishop Auckland was great and felt welcoming, we had no serious issues with our tenure there. The same can't be said of those at DRFC who, after an initial welcome by the rugby club chairman at a fans' forum, couldn't wait to take the money on offer but for the least effort an...

Re: Sports village

We simply can’t, as fans, fund a ground alone. What we’ve done so far is incredible - we’ve raised around 1.3 million in 8 years or so... we would need at least 3 million... it’s not realistic. Not unless a dedicated fan drops the euro millions. One day our best prospect might actually be buying Bla...

Re: Sports village

I honestly don’t think that Blackwell is as awful as some people make out. It’s actually better than Heritage Park now (I agree it wasn’t when we opened) but the extra seats, the larger bar, the larger terrace... and it’s a short walk from Darlington town centre. It comes down to our short to medium...

I can’t pretend I’m not happy about it. It’s not a realistic project, we would end up tied to the rotting white elephant. Pull it down and we can all move on. DMP will be gone in no time.

Calling it now - the games will be a farce.

Unfit players in error-strewn games... probably isn't going to provide representative results. The team promoted will be the one that boredom ate the least during the quarantine.

Re: Potential new signings

I'd imagine Alun will take a look at the young lads released from all of our near neighbours when possible. He's emphasised looking local in the past so I'm sure he will take such an opportunity. I hope we get Junior Mondal in, although he may land higher up if someone in the conference is willing t...

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs

Seems a little unclear where the others stand. Altrincham seem to have said they favour playing them... but the money is a significant caveat. I can’t see any real comment from Chester, Gateshead or Brackley yet? Spending this money strikes me as ridiculous... also, surely the players are all on fur...

Re: The Team 20/21 season

Yep. I just don't see how clubs at our level or even the levels above can possibly afford to pay players / staff what they are being paid now when their income is being shredded. The Premier League and Championship would be fine because of TV rights and large fanbases.... but even in League 1 there ...

Re: The Team 20/21 season

Is there anything the Arena fanboys won't seize upon as a reason to take us back to that dreadful old dive? The capacity of Blackwell is 3,300... so even in such a situation where that 25 percent rule was enforced that's 825, not 750... the idea that walking away from Blackwell to play in the Arena ...

Re: The Team 20/21 season

Seems as good a solution as any, and I could see a world where that season ends up being something like March-July next year. Based purely on a lot of projections that there could be a winter wave. I hope that is wrong but if it happens, it will devastate next season. I can’t imagine a world where w...

I think that would help it for sure. It looks a little odd when the Puma and Ebac logo are both black.

I have to say, that new home shirt is outstanding. The best we've had in a long time. The little red trim bits are very nice.
