Re: Season VOIDED

No just Darlo Pete getting ahead of himself. As it stands we are still in line to play to a finish. But it still seems likely that all non league football will go the same way.

Re: The moment we've all been waiting for...

Yes you are right that some may be in that fortunate position for the present, and may have the additional money to spend due to the closure of other places to spend their cash. But it is also clear that the current attempts to beat the virus may yet close other business and cause more financial har...

Re: The moment we've all been waiting for...

We’re without a doubt more exposed because of the fact we’re heavily reliant on gate income. Obviously fans fund the club through other means too (BTB etc) but unlike a club with a single owner who can pump money in, getting people through the door on a matchday is hugely significant for us. Hence ...

Re: The moment we've all been waiting for...

I think we could emerge from this Coronavirus disaster in a much stronger position than the vast majority of non-league sides & some current professional sides as well. I think the EU will be mortally damaged by current events & our country will be in a far better position to take control of our fu...

Re: Coronavirus and DFC

If this is a suspension rather than a cancellation of this season, this has quite a different set of consequences for part time football. The full time clubs can agree to play later in the year without overall financial damage, but playing our games after a month's break would cause some problems ov...

Re: Last home game for a while?

If we can assume that tomorrow's match will go ahead, that would leave us with 4 home games that could be at risk of not going ahead. The club would therefore lose revenue on those games if people cannot attend. What would be the actual impact to the club's finances? Will this only be paying on the ...

Re: Telford

I think that Rivers is an excellent footballer and could be a match winner on his day but, like a lot of talented wingers, can over elaborate at times and forget to get in a telling pass. He has been unlucky at times not to have scored more goals but, as with Hatfield, he might get more of the rub o...

Re: Hereford

We don't seem to have seen the best of Gary Martin as yet and he seems to have been reduced to being a substitute which, along with the observation on Thommo earlier, cannot give him the best chance to find his form. I wonder if starting him with Campbell might be something worth giving a try.

Farewell to Feethams

As we in a period that might be termed a Slow News Fortnight, I thought I would mention having come across a few papers related to our last game at Feethams, which include the match programme that I remember having to think twice before buying at pretty hefty (for the time) £5. Looking through it no...

Re: Osagi gone

Was it not the case that when Liddle got injured that AA was set on signing another left sided defender, and since then we have lost Lambert, Holliday, and now Bascome, with Bell on loan. Is this leading to making room for someone else coming in?

Re: Osagi gone

A great shame as I think he had something different to offer from our regulars in the midfield, but accepting that we do seem to be over-stocked in that department and he hasn't had much of a look in, it does have the air of inevitability about it. Nice lad so wish him the best for the future.

Re: Guiseley

Also re the first goal there was a Guiseley player in our wall until Just before it was kicked, I thought that wasn’t allowed? I too am confused about this rule as it was one that caused a potential Darlo winner to be cancelled out earlier in the season when Donawa stood by the wall. I have seen nu...

Re: Guiseley

1st goal, ref was correct other than the yellow card. Most annoying thing was we caused it ourselves. 1. The quick throw to Hedley (which you could argue wasn't anything bad) 2. He panicked a bit and passed it straight back 3. It bobbles up and Connell instinctively puts his hand up 4. They they pu...

I have just seen the game highlights and am still no wiser about what the first goal free kick was all about. From the video I can see the ball being passed back to Connell and it flicks up in the air from his boot as he attempts to control it. It is not entirely clear if on going into the air that ...

Re: Guiseley

Going back to the original post, which mentioned some of the problems facing Guiseley by having to adjust to a new goalkeeper and lacking their leading scorer. It made me think that we would be well advised to not do a Darlo Pete, and assume that this made them there for the taking. We have seen our...

Re: Tonight's results Tuesday January 28th 2020

Based on last night and the current direction of travel, I would guess that playing games out to bring the relative positions of teams in line, would see Darlo fall behind Gateshead (who have two away games in hand and might be expected to draw both based on their away results), and Spennymoor (who ...

Despite a feeling that we have not been doing enough in front of goal this season, I believe that Hatfield's strike on Tuesday was the team's 50th goal.

Re: Tonights fixtures

Before this recent run of form I dare say there was little thought of the need of a plan B or even a plan A, as we weren't in a position to have that complication. But until a little more of the season pans out I still think we can afford to live in the cloudcuckooland of flirting with the playoffs ...

Re: Tonights fixtures

It's an irrelevant result. We are enjoying a good run of form. It will end eventually just try enjoying it rather than worrying too much about league position. Absolutely. Recalling how the stated objective of this season was to get us looking up rather than down and putting the building blocks for...

Chester are my son-in-laws local team. He is none to happy with their current performance and commitment and reckons they will not make the play-offs. If that thought is in their squad's minds... It can also be hoped that they will have some doubts about playing a side that beat them quite convinci...

Re: Tonight's results Tuesday January 21st 2020

Another interesting stat is that the last 8 games have pulled in as many points (21) as our first 18 games. The early season injury crisis clearly had an effect on us getting into our stride, and whilst worrying that we now appear to be heading into another injury hit period, it does feel that the c...

Re: Eight games in 29 days.

I think our away form still needs a bit more work on it before expectations of a win can be thought as a given. Good runs certainly get the confidence flowing for both the team and the fans, but I still feel that we are a bit fragile on our travels in the league and certainly need a few more back to...

Re: Darlington V Alfreton

As AA recognises in his interview any team can have a good or bad run of form that may project them into or out of the playoff places. Just look at Southport's recent run. Whilst there is undoubted pleasure in seeing us on the up and holding a playoff spot for the present, being a bit more pragmatic...

I wish the police statement in the Echo was more measured, impartial, objective and accurate. Later in the article there is, what appears to be, a quit...

For what it's worth I was within earshot of the guy organising the stewards at the bottom end of the ground well before kick off and he was telling them that only disabled and those who would not be able to stand were allowed to sit in the limited seating at that end of the ground. Red and white tap...

On a slightly different point to the last few posts, but having read both the Darlo report of the Match and that on the Spennymoor site, I can only see Joe Wheatley as the only player booked during the Match. So why wasn't McKenna booked for taking off his shirt after scoring the second goal?

Have to say that having not been at yesterday's game I was hoping for a bit more feedback from those who did go. Not a complaint but an observation that having won four in a row the reaction here does seem very muted indeed, and contrasts sharply with the exuberant thread about the Spenny game. Perh...

With the only blot being the loss at Leamington, the four wins in the league and the draw with Solihull in the Trophy must give AA a chance of another MOM award as a late Christmas present.
