And to follow up on the dodgy owner theme, I see a story on how Amnesty International have, with their vast knowledge wading in on behalf of hopeless causes, urged the Premier League to overhaul its owners and directors test as a human rights compliant as they see that the current rules are hopeless...

Re: Maguire & Langstaff Released

I was reading some of the York Press responses to one of their articles on players leaving York, and there seemed to be some consensus that they were cool on losing Kempster, less happy, but not surprised, to lose Ferguson, but happy that they would be able to build a new team around Green.

Re: Sports village

Just some idle thought for an idle Sunday. There does seem to be quite a lot of praise for what we had at Bishop and but for the desire to get back to Darlington and get a ground that was fit for the level we are at, might well have served right up to the present. So the idea of being out of Darling...

Re: Sports village

Well the news about the SV is a little disappointing as it reduces the options the club has to move forward, but I was never convinced that it had the makings of realistic opportunity. And other options, like a new site, even if the land were to be granted by the council, look to be miles away from ...

Re: New deal for Donawa, Hatfield, Rivers, Holmes, Hedley, Reid, Storey , Campbell, Laing, Wheatley, Liddle, Watson,Atki

I wonder if Armstrong will feel the same way about Omar if he believes that his desire is to find another club. He has clearly stated that he only wants players who are committed to playing for Darlo. Any suggestion that they are keen on other options might rule them out of the reckoning. It is also...

Re: Boost the budget

I am I suppose one of the luckier ones in this pandemic, as I am on a pension, therefore cant lose my job and to be honest saving money as pubs are shut, (in pub with mates normally most days and don't like drinking at home), and saving on fuel for the car. So while previously upped my monthly cont...

Re: Boost the budget

I think it was £104,300. Pretty sure it was just over the £103,000 mark, so today has certainly broken through that barrier, and given the uncertain times for everyone's finances, this is a truly remarkable total already. But with days to go it may well be possible to get close to DJ's wish list ta...

To be fair, AA mentioned that he needed to get some games under his belt then he'd give him a trial. Jesmond is Step 7, same as Wearside League, so I guess he's played at the highest level he could without too much registration hassle, then of course Clovis happened. Re: Boost the budget

I think that we may get to 31st May and the club could well use the existing funds to tie down the key players Alun wants to keep/sign and decide to continue BTB for another month to have a sort of slush fund to allow Alun to tweak the team as the season progresses. This will also encompass at leas...

Re: Omar Holness

Holness & Bascombe filled a hole when injuries had ravaged the squad and wish them both well in their future career, however they were at best only utility players. Donawa is a more gifted player & could turn a game so would want him in the squad for next season. Certainly when the 3 of them were a...

Hi everyone just wondering at this time of year and at a loose end wondering what other fans think was their favourite game of the Easter period of all time for me it as to be the Hartlepool derby at feethams in 1982 2-1 down at half time before Alan Walsh struck that magnificent four goal salvo to...

No just Darlo Pete getting ahead of himself. As it stands we are still in line to play to a finish. But it still seems likely that all non league football will go the same way.

Yes you are right that some may be in that fortunate position for the present, and may have the additional money to spend due to the closure of other places to spend their cash. But it is also clear that the current attempts to beat the virus may yet close other business and cause more financial har...

Re: The moment we've all been waiting for...

We’re without a doubt more exposed because of the fact we’re heavily reliant on gate income. Obviously fans fund the club through other means too (BTB etc) but unlike a club with a single owner who can pump money in, getting people through the door on a matchday is hugely significant for us. Hence ...

Re: The moment we've all been waiting for...

I think we could emerge from this Coronavirus disaster in a much stronger position than the vast majority of non-league sides & some current professional sides as well. I think the EU will be mortally damaged by current events & our country will be in a far better position to take control of our fu...

Re: Coronavirus and DFC

If this is a suspension rather than a cancellation of this season, this has quite a different set of consequences for part time football. The full time clubs can agree to play later in the year without overall financial damage, but playing our games after a month's break would cause some problems ov...

Re: Last home game for a while?

If we can assume that tomorrow's match will go ahead, that would leave us with 4 home games that could be at risk of not going ahead. The club would therefore lose revenue on those games if people cannot attend. What would be the actual impact to the club's finances? Will this only be paying on the ...

I think that Rivers is an excellent footballer and could be a match winner on his day but, like a lot of talented wingers, can over elaborate at times and forget to get in a telling pass. He has been unlucky at times not to have scored more goals but, as with Hatfield, he might get more of the rub o...

We don't seem to have seen the best of Gary Martin as yet and he seems to have been reduced to being a substitute which, along with the observation on Thommo earlier, cannot give him the best chance to find his form. I wonder if starting him with Campbell might be something worth giving a try.

Farewell to Feethams

As we in a period that might be termed a Slow News Fortnight, I thought I would mention having come across a few papers related to our last game at Feethams, which include the match programme that I remember having to think twice before buying at pretty hefty (for the time) £5. Looking through it no...

Was it not the case that when Liddle got injured that AA was set on signing another left sided defender, and since then we have lost Lambert, Holliday, and now Bascome, with Bell on loan. Is this leading to making room for someone else coming in?

A great shame as I think he had something different to offer from our regulars in the midfield, but accepting that we do seem to be over-stocked in that department and he hasn't had much of a look in, it does have the air of inevitability about it. Nice lad so wish him the best for the future.

Also re the first goal there was a Guiseley player in our wall until Just before it was kicked, I thought that wasn’t allowed? 1st goal, ref was correct other than the yellow card. Most annoying thing was we caused it ourselves. 1. The quick throw to Hedley (which you could argue wasn't anything bad) 2. He panicked a bit and passed it straight back 3. It bobbles up and Connell instinctively puts his hand up 4. They they pu...

I have just seen the game highlights and am still no wiser about what the first goal free kick was all about.
