Re: Darlington V Walsall Match Thread

Feeling very flat about it. Disappointed with our defeat but not the manner of it. Fine margins and all that. Thought Walsall played it well actually and didn't give us too much of a sniff. We just didn't have that little bit of luck. Still, we will always have Walsall away and having been at Leamin...

Re: Will Darlo go for the hybrid model?

To be fair to Spen, what he's saying is entirely what happened to Blyth.
Also, it may be we have just 1 or 2 players on full time, and this may be the way to get someone like Dan McGuire. Pretty lonely training sessions though if there's only a couple!

Re: Darlington V Walsall Match Thread

As AA said before the game, the players could put themselves in the shop window with this game. Liddle, Thompson and Hatfield were singled out by the commentators as being excellent. Galbraith got a few good mentions, Rivers was mentioned as being able to beat players but just lacking the final deli...

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa

We are 1-0 down with 15 minutes to play. A helicopter lands on the rugby pitch next door and Osagi and Justin get out. They leg it to the bench where they are immediately brought on and both play a hand in a 2-1 fightback.

Re: Brackley V Darlington

Wednesday was why there was a lack of tackles. If you mistime a tackle and have a card happy ref, you might miss Weds, especially with such a thin squad. Maybe not the right option by our players, but you can understand why. Edit: Just watched it again and stand by what I said. Our players just tryi...

Re: Tough one to call....Wednesday's game

Totally different on Wednesday. Everyone had the post-Walsall blues yesterday and it was a surreal atmosphere. Players were quite understandably half-hearted. When the atmosphere is cranked up again on Weds they'll revert to big match form.

Anyone know which positions Hurworth and Johnson play in?
Forwards. By all accounts Mason Hurworth is a real wunderkind. If either of them have real pace a la Saunders then may be worth giving them 20 mins, especially against Walsall.

Re: The Squad for Brackley and FA Cup

Holness has been too good in midfield. I think he'll shift the back 4 around and Lambert will be on the bench.

Mason Hurworth and Steven Johnson both in the squad. Both have played recently for Shildon and Steven is our U23 manager's son.

Re: The Squad for Brackley and FA Cup

In the Echo, AA trying to get Jack Lambert plus another on loan in time for Saturday. Lids could well be fit for the Walsall replay. If this is the case, then with a change of personnel we could at least have one sub to cover each area of the pitch (Armstrong forward, Laing defence, Hedley midfield,...

Re: Sold out?

It depends how the Walsall end has been segregated. It may be like the Halifax game. If they sell, say, 300, but get the whole end, the capacity of the tie will be 2800, as the open end holds 800.

Re: The Squad FA Cup

Lycett, Stansfield, Morrison and Armstrong it will have to be. At least the first three have played for us before, albeit as sub.
Our only chance v Walsall now is to race to a 2 goal lead, and hope they have someone sent off.
Maybe AA can bring in a loan for Brackley at least.

Re: The Squad FA Cup

Laing will be playing won't he, as Liddle is injured and Hedley is suspended.

So we have no first teamers apart from a goalkeeper.

Hedley and Liddle may be back for Walsall

You have to agree any replay prices before the original tie so that no exploitation takes place. FA rules.

Re: The Squad FA Cup

Not sure whether Armstrong was being tongue in cheek. Some think he was. However, he's put the thought out there. I wonder if being live on TV might sway things. It's basically a shop window for our players now. No doubt scouts will be watching to see if they can pick up a bargain, and it could be t...

The only other way is to give them the corner near the seats, get some portaloos and catering in that side, and corden off the walkway behind the turnstiles., but that may not be doable.

Re: BT Sport...

It's an important point about strengthening the squad through cup money. AA said that one of the reasons Blyth did so well was due to investing money in the playing squad due to cup runs. However, if you splash the cash and increase the wage bill short term, that will have to be maintained the seaso...

We’ve spent years playing non-league opposition, so the playing league teams competitively for the first time in nearly a decade is definitely something to look forward to. I get the point that sides like Walsall and Oxford aren’t the most glamorous, but then again outside of a handful of ex-PL clu...
