New kit

The point isn’t about it “only being one season” which is a little patronising. The point is the club have decided our identity (or at least what a significant proportion view as our identity) is expendable at the cost of one year of kit sales, which may or may not work. I do get the commercial argu...

New kit

Totally agree. None of them are proper Darlington shirts. Black and white hoops are distinctive and unique and I bet loads of other teams would like to have that. To be fair that first one is pretty similar to our kit from 1889 (black strip down the middle). We had stripes, quarters and a solid bla...

Sorry but all this,"It is our heritage" comes from a far younger generation than I. Not once for over 40 years did I see "Hoops" until the 3 thin hoops made their debut in 1966. I would not mind so much if we actually had hoops, we don't. We keep having black and white horizontal stripes with black...

Re: New kit

Or given that clearly a significant percentage of our fanbase view hoops as being part of the club’s identity, let’s provide a hoop option as part of the vote every season. Then fans get to decide exactly what they want. If they don’t like the hoop option, then they won’t vote for it. If they do, th...

Re: New kit

Not a fan of any to be honest.

2 makes us look like Fulham, 4 looks like a training top.

3 is hideous.

So by process of elimination I’m stuck with 1.

Chester game....

Disappointing performance and probably a result of fatigue and injuries. All teams have a few off-days a season and that was certainly one of them. There was little accuracy on our passes, we were too slow going forward and lacked the guile to break down their packed defence. Hatfield’s dynamism was...

Trotman joins villa

[quote=super_les_mcjannet post_id=458250 time=1579769359 user_id=6209 Be good to keep Trotman beyond this season, however if he leaves then I am sure it gives a decent chunk of budget back into the pot. Who knows what will happen but for now he isn't part of our squad so good luck to him. Agree jus...

Re: Spennymoor game off

I see Kettering did a Spenny today and tried to pretend their pitch was OK and allowed players and fans from Hereford to travel before it was inevitably called off just an hour and a half before kick-off. The pitch at Kettering looked nearly as bad as the Football League standard surface at Spennym...

I'm so glad we won against Alfreton, some teams in our division try to play watchable football but unfortunately they don't - and a mini shout out to HarryChartonsCat who predicted mid September that "The league season is over as far as play-offs are concerned". I'm not having a pop here Harry but ...

I have the screenshot but sadly, as it uses Spen’s real name, if I go off previous threats/warnings from the mods, I wouldn’t be allowed.

Unless Spen, given his challenge to me, is fine with it being posted.

Alferton is a big game for both sides. Either could go into a playoff position.
Aren't Alfreton 7 points off a play off place? :?:

Darlington V Solihull Moors

I hate the long ball football that was churned out by Solihull last night and they got what they deserved in my opinion. I hated it when Gray did it, I hated it when Wright did it and I hate it now. Their main tactic last night was to lump it high and long to feed the big lads up front... I have no...

Re: Darlington V Solihull Moors

To be honest the direct style of play doesn't sound too different to what we used to get to our current division. There isn't one way to play football - which is why Stoddarts report seems to be a little patronising towards Solihull. This. Some of our fans on here are guilty of it too. It’s all rat...

Re: Spennymoor Away

Just as an aside on Spenny. It was my first visit since their pitch upgrade and I have to say not sure if their pitch is much different. Surface looks ok but still a noticeable slope on it. Don’t know what it cost but not sure what it has achieved. Bit like the barriers I suspect O’Reilly Builders ...

Not sure how Styche gets in ahead of Beck but each to their own For me, I do love a maverick so I guess Styche plays into that. And he undeniably could turn a game on his own and without him, I do think we’d have been in a relegation scrap the season TW took over. Absolutely he could go missing in ...

Re: Team of the decade

Gramps pretty much agree most of your selections. However, regards Turnbull you say "Controlled and broke up play...." I am interested in the "broke up play" part of this. Surely a midfielder who breaks up play is one who wins tackles which was never one of Phil's strong points? I think his positio...

Re: Team of the decade

When I saw your comment about Turnbull being our "classiest" my eyebrows went up a notch, but came straight back down when I saw MBW, who, to me, takes that accolade easily. Only disagreement is with the manager. In the few months so far AA has brought a level of hope and belief, as well as far bet...

Re: Team of the decade

Good point on Gray. Whilst he usually brought results on the pitch he ran the club too close to the wire financially. I hope in time he'll prove to have had a far more positive impact on the club than Gray - but you can't argue that Gray's management style got us where we are, and regardless of its...

An idea shamelessly stolen from Twitter – who makes up your Darlingotn team of the decade? I’ve judged mine on a mix of contribution to the team, impact and ability. Goalkeeper – Sam Russell – We’ve had a lot of good keepers but no one has really stood out so I’ve gone for Russell who, in terms of a...

I agree with you 50 years, about going with D.J’s proposals, but I would be dead set against playing on a plastic surface. Oh goody, you’re pedalling this inaccurate, outdated nonsense again.
